That quilt top is so beautiful - I think the blacks really make it pop. I'd back it with red or pink - maybe the Echino hot pink polka dot

Half yellow half orange!

The quilt is lovely. I would use the darker stronger colours.Red or Pink.

An Aqua Print is my vote. And solid Aqua for the binding or maybe a yellow for the back...Oh I can so see why you are having trouble!

First thought that comes to mind is the big writing print from Ikea...if not that, I'd just scrappy it together, as that's the point of a scrappy quilt, right?

I'd choose aqua, Rachel!

Grey.
Now all you suggestions have been voted for.
(I think grey would unify it--you have a lot of grey on the front).

How about some of the same colours in a big size square. Make a big nine patch on the back. Aqua would be really nice for the binding.

I like this for the back: http://www.hawthornethreads.com/fabric/designer/robert_kaufman_house_designer/london_calling_3_lawn/babys_breath_in_celebration

Or what about black?

Hmmm. I'm thinking grey, so the quilting shows but not the cat hair ; )

I agree. It is such a happy quilt...just makes you smile. I would keep the happy theme alive and use yellow or orange. Love the quilt and love your blog.

There's a super cute fabric at FQS by Barbara Jones of Quilt Soup: Cruizin' cream bicycles. The background is cream with gray dots, the bicycles are aqua, yellow, gray, orange. I think it would be fun and cute for your quilt.

Grey with one row of larger squares (using variety of top colors) about 2/3 of the way down the back.

Black with colored dots that pick up the colors on the front.

Mame Johnston said...

I agree with the dots! Happy, happy dots.

It is a happy quilt and the backing should be happy also. I'd go with a yellow, orange, or hot pink polka dot or happy print with baloons or bicycles or such.

Yellow!!!

I vote for green! What a happy quilt. Congrats.

suemac said...

I am with aqua.

Andrea said...

My first inclination is something aqua-bluish in a tiny tone on tone print and perhaps small dots or stripes in black or gray for the binding.

Laura said...

black with white polkadots for the backing

Lindsay said...

Polkadots - or Something with lots of curves (bubles?)

I think you can never get to much lime green, but think about all the great multi colored prints you could use! Everything will match that adorable quilt!

Anna said...

So gorgeous....I vote green!!

Unknown said...

it's gorgeous! love, love love it! for a back... personally i'd go with something in a lower volume grey range. it would be a nice contrast to all the bright colors.

Terry said...

I think a dark gray interspersed with pumpkin panels.
