progression.

progression.
do y'all remember that yummy stack of scrap fabrics?
well, i now have strip sets. 16 strip sets to be exact.
that means the leg work of my scrappy postage stamp quilt is complete.
yayyy.

next up: the patchwork.
this is my least favorite part of this particular quilt.
why? well, it's because i'm kinda OCD. (okay, okay, i'm way OCD.)
it's harder for me to just place square a next to square b without planning.
i'm sure that sounds completely ridiculous, but it's true.

one last thing, i need some reader feedback, please.
do y'all like seeing the progress of a quilt? (like i'm doing with this quilt.)
or would y'all prefer seeing the beginning stack of fabrics and then the end result?

xo, rachel

I love seeing the progression of a quilt and getting to see what you think while you are doing it (like what you wish you had done different, or how sometimes quilts change from your original plan etc).

Oh the progress please! And yes, I am OCD about this kind of project too. I have been known to change one square when laying out the blocks if two the same are next to each other. And I bet you have too!

Progress - helps me visualize how it's done

Progress is fun to see - partly to see how the quilt came to be; partly to make the rest of us feel "normal", since our quilts don't go from neat-fabric-stack to awesome-quilt-top without progress, either!

Definitely the progress - I love seeing the evolution from beginning to end!

progress ... unless you have a magic wand that gets you from fabric stack to quilt (and if you do, I'd like to borrow it for a bunch of wip's I have). :)

Progress please! That also gives you an opportunity to share all of your little tidbits of advice on each step and for people to ask questions as you go along.

I love watching the progression of a quilt. It is great to see the ups and downs that everyone has and makes me feel like I am not the only one.

Kristy said...

Definately share the progress, it not only makes your readers appreciate the work and effort that goes into a particular item; but at the same time it makes Bloggers and their stories more real...you know what I mean.

Progress! I like to know what other people are thinking as they go through the process of making something. I always learn something.

Oh my! I love the colors you're putting together!

I like progress pictures. If you post the beginning and the end in one post it seems like you made it super fast, and makes me feel terrible for taking months to finish a project.

I love seeing the progress as well as hearing what steps are easy and which are difficult for you. And how you deal with the tough issues.

I am really enjoying seeing the progression of your quilt. So thanks so much for sharing it because it is more interesting then just seeing the fabric and then the finished quilt.

Well it seems unanimous! I think we like to see what you are doing. So then when life gets in our way too we won't get discouraged. Love to see what you are doing. Keep up the good work. K-

As a new quilter, the progress helps me see that it isn't just magic that the 'experts' have, but that it's one step at a time. Thank you!

Ellen said...

Just cut into your strips and do it. Don't fret the small stuff. No plan. Make your 4 or so piles from each set and be random... free yourself up.

Vicki Lou said...

I'm another newer quilter who LOVES seeing the step by step pictures. PLEASE keep it up!

love, love, love seeing all the progress. it's more inspiring that way and besides, who could ever get tired of seeing beautiful fabrics getting cut up and sewn together into something gorgeous? no one. that's who!

I like to see progression of quilts. Because you may have different sewing techniques that I could find easier or I may know of an easier way.

I was going to post to say progress please, but I see that's been pretty well covered! lol

I like to see the progress, but I am happier to see you be able to let lose a little and do something for yourself! I totally understand you have made commitments and contracts and promises but this is nice to see too.

Beth said...

Process and progress, please. It helps me think through the steps and also I feel "invested" in the finished quilt, which makes me very happy.

Unknown said...

Oh, absolutely, please post your progress! I love to see a quilt develop from pieces of fabric and come to life. Like seeing a pictures start with a plain canvas and become a completed picture.

I, too, always arrange my pieces. I'm not a 'scrappy' person, but if I make something that's somwwhat scrappy, it has to have order.

Have fun! Looking forward to seeing your progress all along the way! Thanks for sharing with us!

Can't wait to see it come together. I just may FINALLY quilt my postage stamp!

Feel better soon!

Wow I have just found your blog and think it is just fab!!
I am new to the blogger thing, I've just started my own, http://scrappyatheart.blogspot.co.uk/
I've always wanted to do a postage stamp quilt with all my scraps, so I know I will be starting to quilt along with you as of today, after I do a bit of work first of course! ;)
