go! cutter.

24 July 2010

go! cutter.

so the peeps over at accuquilt blessed me with my very own go! cutter.
{remember???}

well i've had some time to play with it...
& now it's time for a rachel-ish review.

go! cutter.

likes:
holy cow to cutting out a WHOLE quilt within a few minutes.
pieces are spot on precise. every. single. time.
a very fun, safe way to include your kiddos.
it's SO easy a caveman can do it.

dislikes:
fabric waste can happen if you aren't using your resourceful "a" game.
applique shapes need to be a bit bigger if you use needle turn method.
although the strip cutter is handy...i'm totally spoiled by moda precuts.

made with the go!

overall review:
i highly recommend scoring your own go! cutter.
especially if cutting fabric is your least fav part of quilting.

unfinished doll quilt stats:
size = 18" square
fabric = arabella by pat sloan for p&b textiles
tumbler die used.
critters die used.
2 1/2" strip die used.
{strips = not pictured.}

p.s. keep your eyes open...
i'm gonna give one of these bad boys to ONE lucky p.s. i quilt reader.
:O)

No way! No way! No way! OMG, OMG, OMG....I think this cutter is the bee's knees!! Seriously is painfully begging allowed? You don't even know how many quilting blog contests I've entered to try and win one of these bad boys!! Since we are down to a one income family, money is tight tight tight....oh well....have a great weekend!! and thanks for the block posting....it really is a cute bunch of critter flowers :-)

I think the applique shapes would be great done with bondaweb.

These are really pretty. If I ever win one, I would give it to my sister because she deserves one for so many reasons (one being a caner survivor). Have fun with yours

I have to admit, I like the idea of being able to cut multiple shapes with exacting preciseness! Will be on the lookout! :)

Rachel, the reviews I read on this are so mixed that I truly don't know what to think. I'd love one for applique as I too am spoiled with the precuts and don't even mind cutting my strips with my rulers and cutters. Yeah, I'm weird that way. I truly wish I could find someone with one and try it out for a couple of weeks/quilts to see if it would really work for me. So glad that you like it and it's working for you! Keep us updated and informed about how it works, K?!

Thank you for the cons...everyones been singing the praises but not letting us know the drawbacks! Not that any you mentioned make me not want one...I really, really want one! LOL

I go back and forth on wanting one of these. I love what you did with your die cuts. So cute! Thanks for an honest review!

Wow! How lucky are you to get one! I keep entering to win one - hoping I will, cause I won't ever be able to afford one, but seriously want one soooo freakin' bad!

Thanks for the review. I appreciate hearing both the pros and cons. I think it would be lots of fun to own one.

Hey Rachel...just wanted to say that what you're doing with your go! cutter! is cuteness plus.

No need to enter me in the giveaway.

I keep eyeballing those go cutters and quivering in excitement at how much fun I could have!

Wow, Rachel, aren't you the lucky girl?! Accuquilt company is so smart to be giving these cutters away to people like you with large reader numbers. Free advertising for them!

I love your little project with the critters and the ric rac. I know it will end up being just darling!

My bestie and I were just talking about getting a Go Cutter Yesterday! I have a question though.... What is the biggest size strip you can cut? Also, how would you compare the go-cutter to the cricket? Aren't you the one with the Cricket?? Hee Hee!
I love your blog! I've been a LONG TIME follower! Thanks for sharing!

yes pre-cuts are nice but we all have fabric that we wish was pre-cut!

I have never left a comment before, but I do have a question. A few weeks ago, you had beautiful music playing whenever I logged onto your site. Could you please tell me what it was? I'd love to find it !

Thanks!(and I don't know how to get this info from you unless you post it....call me technologically-challenged, aka "old".

oh you lucky duck...i was lucky to have a friend lend me her's for 4hours...3hrs and 59 minutes of cut cut cut cut cut....now i can applique my little heart out, agree with you on the "a" game to avoid waste...overall this machine is on my "get" list...but alas with no extra money for this item, i will have to wait...my friend lives too far away to borrow more than every 3 months...i will definately plan my cutting for next time.
watch out for cutters elbow!hehehe

My friends and I would put this to good use for sure! Probably not something I can afford at this time though. Bother.

I keep trying to win one one of these but so far no luck. I love quilting but arthritis is making it difficult for me to cut quilts out. i love the applique shapes you made really cute and so precise.

me , too ; another one that keeps trying to win one ! hah ! I'm glad to read your comments about it ; I'm new to this and I don't have rotary cutting down yet ; I cut a lot wrong but I do love it and it saves a lot of time ; so I think I'm ready for a GO ! sounds good -- right ? I'll tell my husband .......

i would so love to be able to cut out accurate 2 1/2" strips on that baby -- what a relief it would be on my hands and wrist. and, think of all the 'rag time' blocks you could cut out in an hour -- with the fringe already cut, too! neat!! what a time saver!

Great review! It's nice to see your interesting little quilt, too!

PS I was at a bookstore today and saw Irish Quilting on the magazine rack - and I was totally excited to show my husband your gorgeous "Almost Irish" quilt in it! So now I own my own copy and this quilt is on my short list!

SteffiD said...

So that doll quilt is super cute! I'd probably make it into a pillow and put it in the middle of the couch :)

Cutting is definitely my least favorite part of the process. In fact, it's the number one thing holding me back from any new quilting ideas. Even had a post about it in my blogger. Hah, I'm such a whiner :P

Kari V. said...

Do you think it is more precise than pre-cuts to sew with, since it doesn't have the pinked edge?

Jennifer Blosser said...

Love the blocks! I love the rick-rack! I do not have one of these cutters, but it looks great! Love that fabric!

The only drawback I could see is that you can only cut the size that your die is. With a cricket, you can cut from 1/4" to 12".

love the quilt and the idea of the rick rack is awesome!

I would love a go cutter! who wouldn't. hee hee. I hope I'm the lucky one. Thanks for giving me a chance.

Wow! Rachel, this doll quilt is so adorable. I wouldn't even have thought about the pot being a tumbler block. duh. The appliques are so cute, and a LOT easier to cut this way than with a scissors.
I'll keep watching for your drawing.
Keep up the great ideas!

Thanks so much for the review. My friends and I been wondering if it was a great tool or just another gadget - now we know. Thanks so much and maybe I can win one somewhere (or else leave a wish list all over the house!!!!!)

krisgray said...

Thanks for the review! The idea of cutting a quilt quickly sounds so wonderful. With a 3 year old in the house I try only to cut when he's at preschool. I can't cut after he goes to bed - me + cutter after dark usually spells disaster. Can't wait to see your finished project!

Thanks for the review! I've actually put this on my Christmas 'wish list'.....I've been thinking about it. Really appreciate your thoughts...

I've read that the dies are hard to clean, did you have that problem?

I don't know if it's too late or not but would love to be entered into your give-a-way for the cutter! What a fun tool and I could certainly put it to good use! Thanks for the opportunity to participate:)
