the ugly truth.

26 January 2010

make life.

first off:
thanks for all the congrats.
yall are the sweetest, most kind peeps on the planet.

secondly:
morning sickness hit me full on...like a semi truck.
not. fun. at. all.

so what's going on in the griffith house?!?!
well i haven't touched my machine. i won't even admit how long it's been.
our laundry is beyond breeding. it's taken over the basement.
and if it wasn't for my amazing hubby, we'd be eating cereal every night for dinner.
{well they would be. me & eating aren't exactly bff's right now.}

i have a million and a half emails to answer.
the pinwheel sampler quilt along is taunting me.
and i'm up against a major quilty deadline.

it's times like these when i wished we lived closer to my momma.
the good news is, my ma-inlaw will be back in town next week.
{hey ma: maybe you'll come help me with laundry, please?!?!}

i know my blog has been ubber quiet.
please just know i am thinking about yall.
{and all the stuff that i should be getting done.}

i haven't even pre-ordered new moon yet.
that statement alone is proof in the pudding.
*wink*

so for now i will continue to live on graham crackers and strawberry gatorade.
oh boy. lol.

miss yall.
and i miss food.
but i don't miss the weight i'm losing.
:)

Oh... :( Things happen and pile up...let em! You have a good reason. You need to nurture yourself and babe now. Take care of yourself first and everything else will begin to fall into place!

Ginger is so good for the stomach. You need ginger tea, ginger snaps and/or ginger ale for the morning sickness. Also try Papaya Enzymes. They are chewable and they help too.

Hope you are better soon. Like I told my daughter, the morning sickness is just a sign that you've got a determined little one in there.

Girl, you rest and feel better! I definitely don't miss living on apple juice and toast! I'm saying prayers for you and your little one! Also, when I was all sickly and what not, I found these amazing granola bar type things called Belly Bars. They're for pregos and nursing mommas and they are CHOCK FULL of iron, dha, protein, etc... there's a few flavors. (I love the chocolate!)If you find a flavor you like, it's a good way to make sure you're still getting some nutrients in there that you're probably missing out on given your aversions to all things munchy at the moment!

It sounds like the Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along should be the last of your worries. Prioritize! First is you, your health, and your family. Next is whatever you have the energy to do and must do! Take as long as you need, Rachel - we will wait! I wish I was closer to you so I could help you with "Mt. Washmore"! Sure hope you feel better soon....morning sickness is no fun at all!

(((hugs)))

Hang in there Rachel. It'll get better. I'm sure the kids are real excited as we in the quilting community are! Best of luck! Be sure to share belly photos too if you want! Jenn

At least you know why you are not into it all so much at the moment and it is more then worth it, isn't it? Don't worry, we will keep hanging in here and see if you are back, just take your time!

Teresa Marie said...

Just take care of yourself. While I'm sure we're all excited for the Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along to get started, it's not as important as your health, and that of the baby!

Jocelyn said...

Oh my I hope you will be feeling better soon. Morning sickness can be so discouraging. Hopefully it won't last long. Take care, and stay hydrated.

Growing a baby is A LOT of work:) Congrats to your family, and I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Oh Rachel, take care of you and hope you get to feeling better soon.....no need to worry, everything will fall in place in time. I wish for you that lived closer to your momma also right now too! (I know my daughter is very fortunate that her momma lives next door). Take care;

Hugs!!!!!

Much love and prayers your way.

I could have written this post. I think the morning sickness is earlier each time.

I'm living on apple slices and sweet tea.

Claire said...

ohh, you poor thing, i know how you feel....reading you post took me back to when I was in my first trimester with LJ (now 2)....couldn't eat anything, but was so hungry that I had to force myself to eat something...which just ended up in the toilet anyways....I lost 15 pounds, before I started putting baby weight on....I won't tell you what to eat cuz everyone likes and gets different cravings, but I found it helpful to eat about 1/4 cup of something about every 2-3 hours ( I couldn't eat more than that or I would get sick).

i hope you get to feeling better soon...before you know it will be all over with.

and don't worry about the quilt along...from what I'm reading, we all have other things that we need to get done anyways.

Sorry to hear you're feeling lousy. Hope it clears up SOON! The good news is that soon you'll have a precious little babe to cuddle.

John said...

ick ick ick. sorry to hear it! i remember those days ... but i was the husband on the other end of it. so tell shane i can relate! feel better and don't worry about your "duties" ... it's all relatively unimportant. we'll all be here when you're ready for your triumphant return to the world of all things crafty and fabulous.

I had a feeling this was why you've been quiet! Morning sickness is ridiculously miserable! My advice: re-read the Twilight series if you're not already; they're a nice escape (that was when I discovered them).

I hope you're one of those who feels better when the second or so trimester rolls around???

Godspeed to feeling like yourself again! And take care of that itty-bitty babe and yourself in the mean time. :)

trish said...

Bless your heart Rachel.
I hate that you feel so sick.
Don't worry, the quilt along will be there when you feel better and so wonderful to have a husband who is filling the gaps while you nurture that precious little baby in you.
:o) Many congratulations to you!

Oh Rachel!! I feel your pain but at the same time I always found it comforting to know that while I was feeling totally and utterly miserable, it meant that every little thing was happening as it should... And I guess I took comfort in it - especially for those first few weeks when you just have no clue what's going on...

So all that being said, you just keep putting you and that wee little bubba first. Don't you go worrying about anyone else but your family... and btw... according to all those funny old wives tales, I am hedging my bets that it's a wee girl...

xx

Sorry about the morning sickness. Send me your address and I'll send you a mixed bag kit I have all made up. Consider it an early baby gift!

Feel better soon. Have you tried taking B5 vitamins for the nausea? That's what I had to take with my daughter. I was ill for a long time.

Laurel H. said...

Blech; I am sorry about the morning sickness. But it WILL go away. :) I was the same way; I always lost weight in the first trimester, and only gained a little more during the pregnancy. My weight gain always happened AFTER pregnancy/nursing. Sigh. But LOL about your breeding laundry! I feel ya.

Lauren The Artist said...

The best thing about morning sickness is that you'll be cured in a few months! Hang in there.

Barb said...

If I was close by I would do your laundry and make sure you had plenty of graham crackers....if only to get a good look at your sewing room (no unselfish act goes unrewarded...right)? Hope you feel better soon....

You don't worry about anything but YOU & that "little bean" growing inside you! We can all wait on the quilt along...take care of yourself and I do hope you feel better soon! ;)

So sorry you are soooo sick! I really know how you feel, all 10 of mine laid me out for 2 months and my head over the toilet most everyday! Try high protein every hour or 2.... (Pinto beans, hamburger patty grilled, Cheese cubes, eggs....lots of B vit..) that helped me not get so awfully sick. I will be praying for you. :) Maybe you should put the pin wheel quilt along on hold? We will all understand. :)

Oh Rachael, I feel for you! My "baby" just turned 40 but reading your blog brings the preggies back and I can almost feel that morning sickness. It stops and that beautiful little person you are bringing into this world is so worth it all. My prayers for you and Baby Griffith. Just hang in there and rest!

Hey, Rach, I missed where you said you were due. My daughter just announced her second pregnancy today; she's due the end of August. That'll put her two at 15 months apart. Needless to say, I'm thrilled! Take care of yourself.

Oh girlie! I'm so sorry that you are sick! I thought I was sick enough for the whole world...ha ha! I haven't touched my machine since September...yeah I'm that far beyond. But I am FINALLY getting the energy back.

I soooooo hope you are only sick for a few more days. Wish I was around to take the kiddos and help with laundry.
Can I do anything for you?

I feel your pain, girlie. Love ya

I'd come do your laundry if I lived closer:)
Take care of yourself and that baby. Everything else can wait.

Darlene said...

Oh dear, wish I lived closer so I could come help you out. I can remember how miserable morning sickness was. And now my daughter gets it real bad, along with heartburn, every time she's pregnant. Sigh. At least there's a sweet baby waiting at the end of the road!

My daughter does better if she doesn't let herself get hungry. That seems to make her more nauseous. Nibble on cheese and other high-protein snacks.

Don't worry about the blog or anything else. Right now your priority is you and your family. We all understand, sweetie, and we'll be here when you come back.

Sherry said...

So sorry to hear you've had that nasty morning sickness. Hoping you are feeling better real soon. I'm sure you will get caught up on things soon enough, try not to worry about it. Take care of yourself!

I hope you feel better really quickly honey bun! Morning sickness sucks big time (though loosing weight doesn't)... babies are absolutely the best, especially surprise ones... trust me I know! LOl. Hey I thought it was going to be a disaster until they pulled that baby out of my belly and I feel in love with her INSTANTLY and she's worth every minute. Plus (bonus) she keeps me young in my old age, hehe.

I hope you feel better soon. I had horrible morning sickness with my first son, to the point that I was almost hospitalized, so I can understand how you're feeling. :o( Just remember, that it only lasts a little while, and the trouble that it causes is all worth it in the end.
