*sigh*

08 January 2009

well date night turned into disaster night.

we were in cleveland watching rent...
everything was peachy king...
intermission came...
i checked my cell...
1 missed call...from mandie.
{my bff and babysitter for the night.}

long story short:
mandie was at the emergency room with our 2 year old, andrew.
why???
well he fell and hit his head on our coffee table.
split the back of his head right open.

so here i am at intermission freaking out on my cell.
the family in the row in front of us were flabbergasted and panicked as well.
i was a crying mess.
i almost fell trying to leave our seats.
{which were amazing seats by the way...the best we've EVER had.}

i felt like the whole theatre was staring at me.
i mean here i was mascara running down my face...a hot mess.
and the hubby trailing me with a worried look on his face.

so here we are in cleveland...
having one hell of a snow storm...
and i'm trying to get to my baby in the mayberry hospital.

on the way to the hopital i learn that a cop is babysitting my other children.
yes...the local law enforcement is babysitting my 7 year old and 3 year old.
mandie & andrew left in the ambulance and my mother-inlaw is on her way to my house.

when i get to the hospital i freak out crying even more.
just looking at my baby...yall moms know this feeling right???

well then i see the cut.
i think i'm going to faint.
but i keep it together long enough to see...3 staples in his head.
staples...in my baby.
{click on the picture}

i'm a crying mess.
my best friend is a crying mess.
her hubby & my hubby are talking to the nurses.
and then there's andrew cuddled up to my chest.

it was such a stressful night.
i mean i'm a realistic person...i KNOW my kids are gonna get hurt.
{we've been to the er with all 3 of them prior to this!!!}
but i figured since jackson was older & he plays football, he'd be the first with stitches.
but nope...it was my baby...and with staples!!!

so i'd like to report my late post is due to having a little too much fun last night.
that's SO was not the case.

but thank god he's fine.
i mean it SO could have been worse.
{so mandie don't beat yourself up!!!}

quite the tramatic night!!!
but yall should know...the 1st part of rent was amazing!!!

Pin It!

Ohhh Rachel. I am so sorry the Date Night wasn't great. I was jealous that you were going to see RENT.

The first time we rushed Poop to ER I was terrified, the second time was easier. I am hoping there won't be a third, I am sure there will be though.

Praying for you and your baby.

I can still remember my feelings taking my babes to the ER and the heart in throat thing ..well it never ends even when the babes are adults and they are sick or hurt.
Big hugs,
Lola

Damn cell phones! Smile, I know you would rather know and be there with him but awful way to end the night! I remember when my two year old (now 22) hit his head and needed stitches. They papoosed him and he was crying and they would only let one parent in (military hospital) and it SUCKED. I can still hear those cries and was oh so glad to hold him after, as you were. Glad he is okay and hope you get to see Rent again!

Wow!! Freaking staples!! I'm sorry, but that's awesome! What a story he gets to tell...

So my mom and dad weren't home, (I'm sure he'll leave out the mandie part (sorry chica) to sound cooler to his friends) and I was totally doing this wicked (get it, wicked) jump off the table and BAM! I hit my head. I got to ride in an ad car AND they couldn't even fix my head with stitches...yeah man, they had to staple it! Oh freaking cool is that!??!!
(cheers from the playground crowd that had gathered) You so totally rock, Squirt! :)

So there you have it. He looks like it's going to be awhile, taking in his age, before he'll be able to tell the story but I'm sure that's how it's gonna go!

Ouch! You'll be glad later that you got that picture of those awful staples. When my kids were little, we nixed the whole coffee table idea and went with nice, soft ottomans. They still occasionally needed stitches, but they all survived.

Oohhhh Rachel, nothing worse than our babies getting hurt. I still get all upset and my baby is 26 years old. So it never ends.
I hope he's better soon.

I'm so sorry about your baby. So glad that all is mended. Oddly enough, my son had 3 staples in his head as well. Now you can go see rent again!

Oh Rachel I can so understand your panic! How sad your fabulous date night wasn't quite what you'd intended but I'm so glad your darling baby is going to be just fine. Hopefully you won't have to visit another ER for a long time if ever. Raising kids is a fearsome project, LOL. Take care of yourself and poor babysitter friend who was probably as freaked as you!!

Oh, your poor baby. Many years ago my stepson did the same thing, just not quite so severely. We were able to get by with a couple of butterfly bandages. Still scary! Thank God, his dad and I were both home. It's so hard when someone you love is far away when they are hurt or sick. You are in my prayers.

Poor little guy! How scary! And head wounds bleed so much! I had two staples in my head last year... I can sympathize! Just don't be dumb like me and try to remove them yourself (lol, long story)... Glad he is okay and sorry you missed the wonderful show :o(

Watching FRIEND's...that my hubby has to watch every night as we go to sleep...I thought of you!

Mona: Ross, what's going on? Changing the lock??

Ross: No, that guy is.

....

Mona: Oh and I love spending time with you.

I could go on all night. I hope you and your baby are okay.

OMG - clicked on our Calendar Challenge Leader's home page to see how things look from the front lines and - oh, wow!! Not clicking to biggen the staples this early!!

Hug him tighter...hugs & kisses help fix things easier while they're still this little. Mom kisses make everything feel a little better :)

(Although I always thought MY mom's kisses must have more power than mine. Grammie kisses must have super power?)

Oh, I'm soo, soo sorry! I know just how you feel, with 3 children as well those trips to the ER are horrible. But to have it happen when you are away! You just wanted to be there with him, to be there for your baby!
Soon this will be a memory. Just be sure to get those staples out when the dr. says. if they stay in too long, it HURTS getting them taken out!

I would be hysterical too!!! What a crazy and awful night for you. It makes me nervous because tonight is date night and we are going to a Ducks game (Anaheim,CA hockey team).

On a happier note, I can't wait for the quilting bee to start.

Oh Rachel... So sorry this happened... We had a similar experience with Haley the oldest twin. She was twirling in the living room with Gram and Pap watching them.. We were at the tax place and had dinner afterwards. Cell reception is bad.. we made sure to sit by the window I made sure cell was on... and we still missed the call.. AND I had 3 bars... Phone didn't ring or vibrate... well 2 hours after it happened we were home.. no message on the cell and straight out to the hospital.. Grands didn't think about just taking them there.. It was a inch gash on her FOREHEAD and 1/4" or more deep.. ALMOST to the bone. It was horrible. 4 hours later we were home and she was all glued up. Thankfully it was close to hairline and it's a small scar. Haley was also the little one to need surgery when she was 11 weeks old. Ovarian cyst. She's got a scar that will always be there on her belly. She was trooper for that and for this cut on her head.. a few weeks later Autumn cut her head but no stitches or glue.
