fat quarter quickies blog tour.

24 June 2013

welcome to the fat quarter quickies blog tour, y'all.

fat quarter quickies (cover)
after the announcement of my book, fellow martingale author, kathy brown, was kind enough to share an ebook of her newest release, fat quarter quickies.
(thanks, kathy. xoxo)

fat quarter quickies is a collection of quick and easy quilts.
with this book, you will learn to efficiently cut fat quarters into smaller units for any quilt pattern that features precut strips and squares.
and we all love working with those precut sizes, don't we?

fat quarter quickies. (sail away.)
i was asked to share my favorite project from the book.
i instantly fell in love with sail away.

it meets all of the rachel criteria: lots of white/cream solid, pops of color AND simplistic.
winner winner chicken dinner.
PLUS, it's just so very pretty.
*sigh*

pretties for sail away quilt.
i pulled some fabrics to make my very own sail away quilt.
it's going to be dreamy, right?

I don't have many fat quarters for some reason. A lot of my cuts are either smaller (charm pack or layer cakes) or bigger...

suemac said...

Most of what I have are fat quarters. I probably have around 150. I would love a book with more patterns for fat quarters. I am using the same patterns over and over again because they have worked so well for me.

Julie said...

I only have a couple because I am very new to quilting. But I look at others stashes and dream of building my own one day. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!

Alicia said...

I probably have about 150 or so. They are just so pretty, I don't want to cut them up!

anyadahab said...

I would have to guess that the number is somewhere between 100 and 150. The are so dangerous at the store, I always end up getting them as I am at the checkout line.

Sandra said...

Way too many fat quarters in my stash. They are everywhere - by my sewing machine; in a box under my bed; in another box in a closet. I could make every single project in this wonderful book and still have fat quarters left over. Yes, I really really do need to win my own copy. I love every project and so want to make them - for me. Thank you for the chance to win.

In the stash that I have here or do I have to count the stash I sent home with my parents since we'll be moving closer to them soon ;) Here, I think I only kept about 20 and I'm trying to use them up quickly!

I bet I have somewhere around 150-175 fat quarters. I love to collect these. If I win the book I will make the sail away quilt with some of them.

I probably have about 100. I tend to buy half yards more often.but they're good for FQ quilts, too!

Lani @ Simply Fresh Vintage said...

Several hundred ... at a minimum :)

Sara Hall said...

I don't have a lot of fat quarters in my stash...I'm thinking it's somewhere under 50 FQs. I buy more in yardage and precuts!

NanaMoran said...

That pattern is very sweet...and all quilts with Bonnie and Camille fabric are lovely!! I have about 120 fat quarters now. I mostly buy half yards. Thanks for the opportunity to win!!

Shanners said...

I don't think I have any fat quarters in my stash right now. I think I have all bigger cuts at the moment. Though my stash isn't very big. Maybe it needs to grow with some fat quarters. :D

Pam said...

Oh dear, I really like to buy in half yards at the smallest but buy fat quarters to "play" with and I just had a quick count up and stopped at 130. I store them in groups of 10 so easy to count.

Penny from S.C. said...

Oh me, I know over 200 because I have a huge pack of 30's fat quarters that I haven't even open yet! I just love looking at them on my shelf...

Just Sew Sue said...

Too many that I no longer like and not enough of new fabric. :)

Melanie said...

At least 200, but probably more. Yikes! I have more on the way from an online shopping spree this weekend! Must get sewing soon.

Thanks for the giveaway!

27... I counted... apparently I need more in comparison to the comments you've received, so I'm going out and adding to my stash!

VickiT said...

Oh gosh, since I just got a new FQ bundle recently which was a big one, I'm sure I must have at least150 fat quarters, if not more.

Debbie Lou said...

Oh, that's something I don't keep track of, but I probably have at least 100 to 150 fat quarters in my collection. It's hard to cut them up for some reason! Thanks!

I LOVE fat quarters! I probably have around 100.

Ellyn said...

maybe 50? I have lots of "partial" fat quarters, LOL that I have cut pieces out of for this and that...

Sherry VF said...

Actually, not so many FQs...maybe 25. I usually buy way too much yardage.

Erica said...

I am not a stasher! I probably have less than 10 on hand.

Lisa England said...

How many FQs? Enough to make all the quilts in the book, no doubt!

Teri said...

Really, only a dozen or so. Mainly I use scraps from other projects.

Sharon said...

I would have to say around 50. I didn't start collecting them until recently. I have always had some, just not very many. I find they are so useful and it is ok to cut into them!

Madeline said...

oh, gee, I know of 300 right off the bat, because I bought 2 batches of 100, and then 32 here, and 42 there, must be over 350. I do use them up 30 at a time, though, when I make a quilt with them. But at least 100 are just odd pieces, that I got in a surprise pkge or that I just couldnt resist.

Big Six Stables said...

Not enough. I'm new to quilting and have probably around 10-15. I'm always eyeing more though!

Katelyn said...

So I went and counted after reading today's post and I have 160 fatquarters that I can see with my eyes... don't tell! The bad part after that is that I still have many charms, a couple jellys, and several yards and half yards. oops...guess I better get sewing. :)

Michele said...

I think I have a little over 200, but tell my husband. Thanks for a chance at an e-book:)

Ha. Depends who's asking...If my hubby is asking~probably 9 or 10, if it's another quilter then they could probably add a zero to the end of that. I tend to buy by the yard if I'm at a store, but I buy bundles of FQ's at shows etc., and I usually get one or two for my birthday or Christmas or... thanks for the giveaway!

Patty said...

I think I probably have about 80. I have been buying more pre-cuts lately instead of fat quarters.

Susan said...

Honestly.... Zero.... I would love to have some:) usually buy by yardage at store I shop at.

Have a blessed day,

Susana Neiger said...

Actual fat quarters I've bought? Maybe 10 ... Fat quarters I've cut out of shirts? At least 30. Thanks for the chance at a fun giveaway!

I have only about 4 fat quarters, but tons of 1 yard pieces, I would love a pattern book with ideas for small quantities of fabric.

Kathryn said...

How many? At least 100!!

Rainy said...

I have about 30 fat quarters, most of my fabric is either bigger pieces or smaller scraps...need to work on that.

Katy said...

I think I have about 10 fat quarters in my stash. I have about 15 half yard cuts. Sail Away is a cute pattern!

Laura said...

Too many! But after tomorrow there will be fewer. We are setting up to make quilts for those that have been evacuated and are now homeless from devestating floods here in Western Canada.

I love love love fat quarters. I think I have over 100...I try to use them up as much as I can but I keep buying them.

Jayne said...

Now that's a question that makes me pause...I say never enough! My husband...he would not say that! If you are talking full fat quarters, maybe 30-40. Partial, maybe 20-30! Looks like I could use this book so I can make use of some of them!

DEAN FAMILY said...

Oh I'd probably say around 115ish sounds about right. I'm sure this book would come in handy real nice. Thanks!

Tamie said...

Oh my, most of my stash consists of fat quarters. If I were to count them and then multiply them by a very conservative two dollars a piece (or even three) then I would know how much I have invested in fabric. That might be eye opening. I know I have at least several hundred. They are great for scrappy quilts!!

Anne said...

I am just starting building my stash. I would say I have 50 fat quarters. Time to make something!

anorthowife said...

Well, I'm on a "no new fabric" kick and I've been slowly whittling down my stash. . . So maybe 20? 25? 30???

BKringel said...

Probably 25 to 30 FQ's right now. Would love some ideas for projects tho!

I am going to say at least 1000....I am addicted to fabric and I am not ashamed to say it!!!!!!!!!!! (O:

Kathy said...

I would have to say about 50. I use to collect them but not so much anymore. Would love to win a book on how to use up more of my stash. Thanks for the opportunity.

cakegirl said...

Please don't ask me to count as I really don't want to know. fat quarters are my downfall. Thanks for a great giveaway.

Liz said...

About 50. I've moved on to half yards now - which is even worse. The book would be fantastic.

Brynn said...

Maybe 40? I tend to like half yards better, but my budget keeps voting for fat quarters ;)

EmileeHope said...

I would guess around 40-50 at least! They are so fun to collect! :)

SheilaN8 said...

I just did 2 rainbow colored quilts and that made a serious debt in my fat quarter shelf. I have 3 left. Yep. 3! Lol!

Too many to count. Over 250.

Jitka said...

I could sound funny, but I have no fat quarters. I use yardage and I buy usually 1/2 yard.

pennydog said...

I've cut into most of mine so they're no longer a full quarter, plus I had a recent destash so I'm going to guess at 40-60, but only 25 whole ones.

Cindy said...

I am sure I have well over 100 fat quarters in my stash. A book like this would be well used! :) Thank you so much for the chance at winning one!

junacreationsuk.blogspot.co.uk said...

I was very lucky to be given a box of fat quarters at cost of all muted tonal fabrics, I've used so many of them already and still have about 20 left, but then I have three draws of long quarters, half metres, half fat quarters all waiting to be used (I'm also very lucky to be given odds and ends everytime I go and pick up my fabric order), so winning this book would really, really help :o)

Dianne said...

LOTS of fat quarters as I was on a buying spree for those when I first started quilting. Some may be missing corners or strips, and I'm looking forward to using more in a scrappy quilt.

Karen said...

I am not a huge collector (or so I thought), but I probably have about 250. So I guess I need this book LOL!

suz said...

My name is Suz and I'm a fat quarter addict. I love scrappy quilts and fat quarters are a great way to get the most bang for your buck! This book would be a great addition to my quilt patterns!

Bonnie said...

Ha! Lots but I use them a lot too. I'm guessing between 200 to 250. And I keep them in baskets and boxes on top of some book shelves. They are my "go to" fabric for small projects.

B Drou said...

I probably have between 50 and 100. I've been stash busting a bit lately... Thanks for this chance!!

Nicole said...

Probably around 100! I need to get to work using them!

Jan Baker said...

I love fat quarters but I believe I only have about 60. It will be increasing because I talked my boys into giving me fabric for birthdays and Christmas,

karen k said...

Looks like a great book. I don't have too many FQs but I'm collecting as I am starting to love quilting! These quilt blogs are a wonder for those of us just getting started.

IHeartQuilting said...

If I had to guess, I'd say I probably have maybe 50 fat quarters in my stash. If my budget doesn't allow a bigger fabric purchase, I tend to grab a few, just to satisfy my craving at the time. :)

LauraC said...

Maybe 100, which seems like a lor but I really don't feel like I have mearly enough fabric to do anything with it. Hmmm

Unknown said...

Hi! I have too many!! I just can't count them all!! I agree with you, though, Sail Away is my favorite so far, although they are all beautiful and I would like to make them all. Thank you for the chance to win!!

NextVanGogh said...

for FQs, I have a big bin full! It's probably in the neighborhood of 2-300. I've never counted. :)

Julie said...

I have at least 150 to 175 single fat quarters, I have another 75-100that are in fat quarter bundles. I would say I need some patterns for these :)

Sarah_L_N said...

Um, do I really have to admit that?! lol :) Most of my stash is fqs, I would think I have at least 200, but I'm erring on the side of caution with that estimate, so as not to scare myself ;)

Tammy said...

I have about 6 shoeboxes full... Probably close to 200...

Nita said...

Not enough, lol! Seems I never have what I need and have to go shopping again.

barb said...

i have six fat quarters babscorbitt@gmail.com

Unknown said...

My guess is that I probably have less than 20 fat quarters in my stash. I spent alot of my first 30 years making clothes, buying yardage of 3+yards, so I am still afraid that there is not enough in a fat qtr. to make anything. I would love to win the book that shows me that I can survive with the fat quarters.
thelady at hotmail.com

Unknown said...

How many fat quarters do I have? My guess is maybe 50? Thanks for the opportunity to win the book. That would help with those fat quarters!

Mary Kay said...

I probably have between 75 - 100, but don't tell my husband :) i have started doing some machine embroidery so all those fat quarters have been a help!

Terry said...

Without counting them, I'd guess I have around 70 or so. Gosh, that isn't that many compare to some, but I bet my husband would freak out, given I also have charm packs and yardage in addition to the fat quarters! (and I'm so proud!) :)

Jennifer said...

I'm like a lot of others that commented - I have more precuts and yardage(whites, neutrals). Over time, I've used up my fat quarters with fun little quilts. However, I probably have a few dozen still in my stash. They come in handy - specially when then are from collections by the same designer and they start mixing and matching with each other. Making so many little baby quilts this summer - many babies being born in my circle of friends and family.

annemarie said...

I guess 20 or so - am not really sure!

Unknown said...

As a novice quilter, I only have a few fat quarters. Well, "a few" in quilting terms- I probably have around 30 untouched fat quarters, most of which I bought while working at a craft store (they looked so beautiful and bundled up and tied with string). Thanks for this opportunity to win a great book of patterns- I am always on the lookout for them as it is!

Sharon E said...

I don't have very many any more as I've been using them for scrap quilts. I'd guess I have around 3 dozen. thanks for a chance to win.

Qltr89 said...

Oh gosh, they are in 2.5 bedroom closets. I had to leave half of the spare bedroom closet empty in case someone comes to visit. My guess is over 1,000 fat quarters. Now, you've made me rethink my fabric purchasing method. Not lol. Thank you for the chance to win the e-book.

Susan said...

I probably only have around 120...Thanks for the chance to win the ebook!

Jess said...

Ah, I love fat quarters! My stash isn't very big, but most of it is FQs, so I'd say I probably have 35-40. Thanks!

Andrea said...

I'm going to say I have over 50...I started buying Fat Quarter late...most of my fabric is at least a half yard or more.

Sharon said...

I'm guessing 75ish. I have as much 1/2 yd. cuts as fat quarters.

ytsmom said...

Hmmm, good question! I just bought 63 (at a super buy) Friday, have 3 FQ bundles, plus various others. At least 300, probably more! Thanks for participating.

Gill said...

Probably around 50!

I've been subscribed to the Fat Quarter Shop's batik FQ club for about 5 years, so that's at least 700 in my stash (I have actually used a few). Thanks.

Mallorie Anderson said...

I probably have about 70 FQ's right now. I keep finding them more and more useful as I get into scrappier quilts :)

KathySue said...

I have some but like any dedicated quilter I would have to say - not enough!

KatieQ said...

After reading your post, I decided to count how many I have before commenting. I stopped at 125 and there were still 2 more boxes. Ugh! Time to start using them.

Vicki H said...

I'm not sure how many I have, maybe arouns 40-50. They are great eye candy.

Unknown said...

I'm guessing I have 20 fat quarters in my stash.

Emily said...

I don't usually buy FQs because they seem to be more expensive than just buying yardage from the bolt, so do I count how many FQs can fit in all my yardage?? In that case, about eleventy million :)

barbara woods said...

I have just been quilting quilting year and a half so maybe 50

Unknown said...

I have no idea, but if I have to guess, it would be in the hundreds!

Karrie said...

less than 50

Melissa said...

I actually don't purchase FQ very often, and when I do, they tend to get used immediately. I'm guessing I probably have 10-15 on hand.

equilter said...

At least 50, probably more...

Pank said...

Shh don't tell I hide mine under my bed in a flat long sweater container and it is full. Plus I have some in a cloth bag waiting to be used for a project. There must be close to 50-75. Sure is hard when such cute stuff comes out.

bobbie23nc said...
