geared for guys.

geared for guys.

welcome to the geared for guy book tour y'all :)

geared for guys is an awesome book by my friend emily herrick.
{whaddup emily. xoxo.}

i love that she made a dudes book.
see i have all kinds of dudes in my life.
a hubby. two sons. brothers. nephews. and hubby's bachelor bff that is always around.

even though i know i'm capable of making a quilt geared towards guys, i'm lazy.
i wanted someone else to do it for me.
insert emily.

she gave me 8 great guy quilts to choose from.
the only problem is that they pretty much all fit the guys in my life.
so it looks like i still have some decisions to make.

but first up . . .

odd ball.

i really, really wanna make this "odd ball" quilt.
i love it. just the way it is.
BUT i might make it orange & brown since the hubby is a cleveland browns fan.
or i might just leave it orange & grey since we painted our living room grey.
decisions, decisions.

maybe y'all can help me.
leave a comment telling me which y'all would make: orange & grey OR orange & brown.
one lucky ps i quilt reader will win their very own copy of quilts for guys.
{winner will be drawn saturday.}

gfg.

and please, go visit pink chalk studios tomorrow for another chance to win.

i love orange and gray!! orange and brown makes me think of fall and halloween...which i like too though :)

kris said...

I would do orange and gray for sure. Cool quilt.

Jenna said...

Do the penny toss! Heads, brown...tails, gray! Your hubs would probably like brown better (cause he is a 'dawg!)...but gray is more chic...and if it will hanging around your living room, gray would be better! Either way Mr.psiquilt will love it 'cause you made it! <3 Go Browns!!

Debbie B Sam said...

Orange and blue :) I know that wasn't an option, but that is my combo - and the polish of choice on my big toe.

orange and gray - def!

Ladette said...

Orange and Gray! As someone else said, orange and brown is fallish and sorta common.

Paige said...

I'm a football fan so I get that but I wouild go with gray. I ust like that combo better!

Ellyn said...

I think orange & gray would look nice, even though I am from Cleveland, so I get that too....

Marci Warren-Elmer said...

I would make it orange and brown. If you house is like mine most of the quilts do not look like "boy" quilts.

Shanon said...

Orange and Gray well actually I think it depends on how much you think your husband will use it. If he will be super appreciative but never uses a blanket/quilt maybe go for the brown but if you think it will hang around all the time I would go with Gray.

I really like the orange and gray one pictured! Looks like such a fun book. Another excuse to make a quilt. :)

I would do orange and grey :) Thanks for the chance!

Since your living room is gray, I would say make the quilt orange & gray. I have lots of guys in my life, too & think I really need this book. My 31 yr old son told me recently that all he wants for Christmas for me is a quilt, so this book probably has a good pattern for me to use for him.

Sharon said...

If you're really making it for the hubs, orange and brown would probably be his choice, right?

I love the orange and gray! Thanks for the opportunity!

Orange and grey, orange and brown are too 1970s for me.

Jessica said...

Definitely stick with the orange and grey! That bright warm orange does great against a cooler background- love it!

Linda said...

Both choices are nice, but maybe you can find a fabric with both orange and brown in it (like a tiny check or plaid). Or maybe you can have it reversible and do the back in orange and brown and the front in orange and gray.
I lean toward the orange and gray myself, but I would see if the husband has a strong opinion about it and go for it!

I'd stick with the orange and grey. and I love the quilts in this book!

As a Pittsburgh Steelers fan I just can't go for the orange and brown! Hope that doesn't mean I can't win! I do love orange and grey. Or anything and grey. This book looks great, thanks for the chance!

"I" would prefer orange and grey but "honey points" are always good to have so maybe you should make it orange and brown!

Jane said...

I'd go with orange and grey. Orange and brown reminds me of a house we moved into in the 70's. that was the colour scheme of one of the rooms!

Sharon said...

Id go with orange and grey.
Just my Two Cents!

Kim said...

My instinct was orange and grey - but it would be nice to change things up and I think orange and brown would be very nice!

Janelle said...

Maybe orange and that elusive tan/gray color. Taupe, sand whatever it's called that's a happy medium of both!

Heather said...

Orange and gray :)

I am excited about this book! I like the grey and orange

Krysta said...

Orange and brown. Whenever I make something for The Hubs, I never take into consideration if it will "match" or not. I just make what I think he will like the most. I mean, Ive taken over pretty much the whole house with "my style", so when he gets a little something for himself, it only makes sense to let it be his favorite :)

Marcia W. said...

Orange and Grey (perhaps a variety of shades of grey) - Orange and brown remind me of pumpkins and Halloween... Thanks for the chance. I've wanted to make a quilt for my brother and an uncle for some time - think this book would help me break my impasse.

I'd make it orange and gray if it was for me, but in this case maybe orange and brown?

Take care of yourself!

While I think that the orange and gray is nicer, I think that the orange and brown is also really pretty (I have one I made myself!) and would be a great thing to do for your husband :)

VickiT said...

I think both choices look great. The next question would be will the person you're making it for only use this quilt during the latter part of the year? If so, then I'd go with the orange and brown. If all year long, I'd choose the orange and gray. The orange/brown reminds me of Fall.
Of course, if the person is a sports guy and likes a team with the orange/brown color then totally do that one.

HA didn't *I* help you just SO much? LOL

Thank you for the chance to win this book. I really do love all I've seen during the blog tour of her book. I think she's got a huge hit on her hands.

Orange and gray!!!!! Just because it would fit in with your new paint and yet have the orange for him.....two birds, one stone? But I do love gray this year....so very much more than I have in past years....so maybe I am a bit biased! Either way, whatever you create will be great.

Well, Rachel, hubby is a guy. So here's what will happen. You will make the quilt orange and gray to fit well in the room. When hubby learns the quilt is his, he will say, you should have made it orange and brown cause I'm a Cleveland Browns fan. So, you should make in orange and brown. Do the math. LOL

Orange and grey. I think of the 70'ties with orange and brown (and that makes me a lot older than I care to be.... so let's not go there *LOL*)

prsd4tim2 said...

What a great idea. Seems like there usually aren't a lot of choices for guys. I just finished an airplane quilt for my airline pilot husband, but that was pretty generic.

I'd go with the orange and gray. Nice combination.

Betty B said...

The orange & grey is very striking, but the quilt IS for your husband. I say go with the orange & brown - maybe add stripes to the orange circle to represent the team helmet.

Normally I DON'T love gray in quilts - I know its trendy right now but I don't like it. HOWEVER, this quilt is the exception. I DO love the grays and that pop of orange. I think orange and brown might look too 70's. But that's just my humble opinion. idaewing@yahoo.com

I'd go with the Team colors. My husband is a Kansas City Chiefs fan so I would do it in red and yellow if I were to make a quilt just for him. Either way I can't wait to see it when it is done. :)

since i am not a yankee, i would choose a grey with black and a dark grey, and a splash of orange.. thanks for the competition

Erin said...

To be honest I would almost go for a blue-gray or a slate grey. If I was doing Kona I would go with either Cadet, Ash & Orange for the blue combo. Windsor, Slate and Tangerine for the grey combo. It I went Bella Solids, I might do Sea, Silver, and either Orange or Clementine for the blue combo. For the grey I would go Etching Slate, Steel and Clementine. But this is really depending on the dye lot and if they came out a little more warm or a little more cool, I have notice from time to time a slight shift in the dye lots. But this is just my opinion.

Carole Kurth said...
