quilt remix blog tour.

all aboard the awesome train.
today makes day 5 of the quilt remix blog tour.
so it's my turn to sing its praises.

quilt remix = amazing book.
end. of. story.
the genius behind said amazing book is my pal emily cier.
*loud applause*

emily has an artistic sense that's exquisite.
she's like someone who can tell butter from i can't believe it's not butter.
yeah. she's THAT good.

quilt remix blog tour.

and she does it with style.

i mean look.
walking uphill...both ways...in the snow.
classic.

quilt remix blog tour.

my fav quilt in the book is em's take on trip around the world.
me loves it. o' lot.

quilt remix blog tour.

oh and then there's this hot little number.
it's like dresden plate gone wild.
brillant.

quilt remix blog tour.

& i was really impressed with how she showed size options.
it's little things like that that make my life easier.
hi-5 emily.

so i had a chance to ask miss emily a few lingering questions i had.
lingering as in i'm nosey & i just wanted to know these things.
:P

what's playing on your ipod/itunes when you're
getting your quilty groove on???

no music during quilting. only really bad movies.
i don't really watch them because i'd like to not sew my fingers to the quilt but i do listen to them.
the other night was death to smoochy. i'd really like those 109 minutes of my life back.
(but at least at the same time, i got 109 minutes of sewing done!!!)
last night was a documentary about the king of swaziland.
streaming netflix is my friend.

if you had to pick one quilt to place in a time capsule for safe keeping,
which quilt would it be??? and why???

the wall-e quilt i made for my son, liam.
it's not artistic or an amazingly pieced quilt or anything.
the reason i pick that one is because it is the most loved quilt *ever*.
and i mean *ever.*
he has slept with it every nap and night for almost 2 years now.
{pictures of it are here.}

let's pretend your quilty journey became the next box office hit.
which actress would star as you???
mary-louise parker.
or really nancy botwin. (minus the pot and drug lord husband.)
just the standing there with a blank stare while holding a cup of a coffeeshop drink
feeling like the world is rushing around you and you're being pulled in
a million different directions and you have no idea what to do.
i feel like that most days.

g i v e a w a y ! ! !
leave me comment telling me what YOU have playing in the background when you quilt.
*winner will be drawn at the end of the blog tour*

I get out old mix cd's from high school and college and listen to them as I quilt.

I like to listen to something funky, like Vampire Weekend while I quilt. It keeps me motivated when quilting becomes monotonous {never!}. Love the book!

Megan said...

I'm with Emily - I usually have movies or TV on DVD on in the background. But it's got to be something I've seen before, so I don't get distracted and burn my fingers with the iron or something.

This morning I'm listening to the savage love podcast.

mcregan said...

Believe it or not, I listen to the Food Network and pretend that all of my Food Network friends are making fabulous meals while I am having fun with fabric. Unfortunately, my husband and son do not appreciate any of those meals!

Bree said...

I usually put on a movie I've seen enough times that I don't need to pay attention to it. Lately, it's been Disney's Aladdin. :)

jaellede said...

I'm listening to all kind of audio books :)

Jen said...

It depends on my mood, but I tend to listen to some classic rock when I'm quilting. Things like Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, Steve Miller, etc. Occasionally I'll throw on some of my favorite rap/hip hop if I need some energy like Eminem, Luda, etc.

Anonymous said...

either NPR or the same mix we always have playing. I even run to it

Juli said...

When I quilt I have to concentrate so often I just have silence if I do put music on it will be country.

Retrogirl said...

Usually its whatever my random mind thinks to search on grooveshark so I don't have to bother skipping songs on my ipod.

Nancy Botwin minus pot & druglord husband...is still cracking me up! Hilarious. Can't wait to get my hot little hands on Quilt Remix!!

Luvs the new header, Rachel. Your site rocks.

yesterday as I was sewing my strips for the postage stamp quilt I had Glee season 1 disc 1 on. I think I'm done with that. Wanted to see what it was all about. Not for me.

I like to listen to movies when I sew. Either DVDs or usually something from the Family channel or Lifetime or Hallmark. The sappier the better!

I haven't figured that out yet - right now it is the radio I listen to (some pop type station) but, as I am new to quilting, it may change over time.......:-)

Gill said...

I always have the radio on - I'm in the UK so it's always Radio 4 for me!

Jocelyn said...

I do not usually have anything playing when I quilt. I find it to be distracting. But sometimes I watch a quilting video ;-)

It's either the True Country or 90's station on my TV's music channels. I have Charter so if anyone else does...we can rock out together!! :)

Amanda said...

I am usully watching some sappy chick flick, or some other movie that my husband would have absolutely no interest in watching.

KristyZ said...

When I have time to sew it's usually late when the kids have gone to sleep so I need some fun stuff to keep me going. I like to listen to Lady A or some Sugarland to get the party started!

luvtoquilt said...

I have a new age station playing while I'm working on my quilts -- very soothing and enjoyable.

Nancy said...

"Silence is Golden", without the "is Golden" part. Yep, cryptically speaking, I don't have music on. I've gotten to where I like quiet. It's so pieceful!

And I loved your interview!

(And when I typed out "pieceful" above, that was automatic. It means peaceful, but I guess "piece" came to my mind first! LOL!)

Jenny said...

i usually have a book on cd...but the catch is that it needs to be something ive read before so i dont stall the sewing to catch a certain snippet of the book! i keep telling myself to stick to music, but i dont. would love this book!

momto2wasd said...

I'm a big fan of 70's music. That's most likely what will be playing.

DianeY said...

You know, I really enjoy quiet, so no TV or music. Right now I hear so many birds chirping & I love it

Jen said...

Like Emily, I do the bad movies. Nothing good that I actually have to watch, just something I can listen to with half an ear. Lifetime movies are perfect. Hallmark also. Hell's Kitchen you can get away with listening to also. I can't wait to check out this book!

Donna Joy said...

I listen to quilting pod casts, and then I listen to Paul Simon, Eagles, just old CD's. Some days I just want relaxing music.

If I'm hand stitching (which I usually do in the front room) I have the telly on, often something I've seen before but love - either a DVD from a box set or something I've recorded (NCIS, Everwood, Downton Abbey, etc.). If I'm stitching upstairs in my sewing room (usually on the machine) then I listen to the radio...radio 2 (I'm also in the UK) unless it's a weekday between 2 and 5pm, then it's an audio book or radio 4 as I'm not a Steve Wright fan...
Thanks for the giveaway!

Erin said...

I love listening to NPR - any show that is on my local channel. I definitely love sewing on the weekends because of all the great programming!

Pepe said...

The sound of silence. I love work in the silence... That's true! It's so relaxing... The past summer I hearted to wake up early in the morning to quilt in the garden in the silence of the morning at the sound of birds... Yes... it's the sound of the Nature!

Unknown said...

I usually have the TV on when I;m sewing with a movie, HGTV or TLC on. It is kind of hard to have something on that you have to really watch, so I mainly just listen.

I have to have tv playing in the background. I can't tell you how many times I've "re-watched" my Sex & the City dvds. Its usually the first video I grab from the vault, when I start a big project.

Usually stand by movies or tv shows like:
Independence Day
The Day After Tomorrow
Last Holiday
Pride and Prejudice
Grey's Anatomy
Ghost Hunters
Any football or college basketball game.

I'm trying to get more into listening to music as I sew but that lasted the Christmas season and then died.

sarahbethe said...

This reminds me that I should put a radio in my quilting room. Right now, I just have quiet, which is sometimes nice. Especially since I'm the mother of a 2 year old. Quiet is always good these days.

I listen to music with earphones. It needs to be right in my ears or else I get distracted.

I 'listen' to a movie when I quilt --usually one I have seen so many times that I probably could recite it from beginning to end. My favourite one to have on is 'Hot Fuzz' but 'The Boat That Rocks' has such a awesome soundtrack that it's become my new favourite in background noise.

epban said...

Classic rock or classical for me!

Fleurette said...

I listen to my favourite radio station, East Coast radio or I'll listen to some cool jazz!

sharon said...

Usually a movie or the TV on low.
Great book would love to read this one! Thanks.

Rachel said...

I usually have a movie or an episode of a tv show (my current favourite is Parenthood) playing on my laptop. If I'm free-motion quilting, though, classical music creates a wonderfully smooth rhythm.

corina said...

I usually have a Turner Classic Movie on. Occasionally I will glance at the screen, but mostly I just listen. When there was a really good oldie on, my mom would keep me home from school (with the excuse she thought I had a fever) and we'd cuddle up on the couch and watch.

Unknown said...

Music - everything from ACDC, through Joni Mitchell to classical and opera. I used to put on the radio but just got hacked off with the presenters.

Anything really to drown out the noise of my beloved dog snoring loudly beside me!

Becky (My Fabric Obsession) said...

I either go with silence (a rare treat around here) or a podcast.

I usually have the TV on with a movie I've seen before. If it's a new movie, I get too distracted and will sit and watch and not focus where the needle is going!

If I'm just sewing, I listen to the tv. If I'm FMQ, then I put in the earbuds and crank up the rock-ish music on my mp3 player. Thanks!

Bry said...

Oh man this book looks so fantastic! My fingers are crossed! When I quilt I have to have the tv on. With music I tend to sway/dance to the beat and my sewing lines get all wonky! LOL! Usually I find a season of something to put on whether on netflix or dvd or something.

Jennifer said...

I usually put on a favorite DVD, one I know really well so I don't need to pay attention to it (usually a teen movie from the late 90s/early 2000's like She's All That or a John Hughes film). If one of my absolute fav parts starts, I usually stop sewing and watch that part. I sewed most recently to Never Been Kissed.

adnohr said...

I have a playlist called "Wellies" that's all The Jam, Style Council, and Paul Weller, so it lasts a long time with no repeats, and I can sing along mindlessly. Either that or NPR.

quiltzyx said...

I usually have the TV on - sometimes stuff that I've TiVo'd so I can back it or pause it. If I have music on, it could be anything from Beach Boys to Classical to Jazz to Winona.

Thanks for the chance!

Mommarock said...

Playing in the background.. dogs barking.. oh and the tv. I sit and hand stitch while I "watch" tv. I usually watch the stitching I am doing, and listen to the tv, and occasionally peek at the screen to avoid poking my fingers.. but it does happen.

Marie said...

I usually listen to whatever my husband has on the TV in the next room. I 'watch' most movies this way.

Chelsea said...

I listen to the CBC, Canadian public radio. Which means I end up stopping the machine often so I can listen to the interviews. I really should switch to listening on my ipod!

I escape to my quilting for peace and quiet so I never have any sound on in the background. With two very busy 3 and 4 yr old girls, I look forward to just the wonderful quiet sound of my machine sewing away when I quilt! It's like heaven! Thanks for the chance to win this fabulous book!

I usually play my favorite movies and just listen because I have the image imprinted in my mind. Or listen to a book on CD but sometimes I miss something when I am running my machine full on.

Amiechan said...

My husbands games on his pc mostly. I don't dare having music on if my baby wakes and I can't hear him over the music. But it's good to be in the same room as my love and speak with him as I work! :-D

I usually listen to podcasts. I wish I had a telly in my studio! I'm so jealous!

A.J. Dub. (Amy) said...

It used to be Psych, the Mentalist or NCIS (or Sesame Street if it was not naptime.) UNTIL our free cable was snatched away from us. We had unknowingly been getting free for 5 years and when we needed a question answered about an outage they (and we) discovered their error. We decided to just see if we could go without it for a while so now sewing time is quiet time.

That Wall-e quilt is adorable.

Jacqueline said...

I have everything from a chick flick to big band & swing to country to badddd 80s music... HAHA! I am VERY eclectic! I am waiting till this tour is over to see if I win, and if I dont Im gonna buy the book. I LOVE trip around the world....

We have nature playing in stereo - we live on a farm and can listen to the baby calves bellowing, birds chirping, and my absolute favorite - a collection of wind chimes tinkling in the breeze through the pergola. Thanks for the giveaway. I like the combination of modern and traditional blocks in Emily's book photos. Please enter me into the draw.

Sarah said...

I actually have chick flicks playing! Needless to say, it takes a little longer to get a project done, but I can never pass up on an opportunity to watch my flicks!!

Kelli said...

When I quilt I am usually listening to "the Sounds of Silence". No, not the Simon and Garfunkel one, just the quietness of my house. I shut myself up in my sewing room and just quilt away!!

Anonymous said...

When I quilt, I listen to whatever happens to be going on in the background (I'm a single mom with four kids) and do my best to referee! LoL But when I have a choice, as in, if the kids are in bed and I'm up past my own bedtime, I will sometimes listen to a television program or movie while I quilt. jody.edwards@yahoo.com

I am going to have to get my hands on this fab book. When I am quilting, I listen to music mostly from when I was in college...before corporate america sucked out all of my creativity. My favorite quilting time song is Mazzy Star's, "Fade into you."

For me it's country. As Barbara Mandrell sings "I was country, when country wasn't cool"!

I like to have the tv on or music while I am quilting. Can't stand just silence!

Rebecca Merry said...

I have to have mindless dribble on the tv in the background. Something that I've seen before but that I'll still listen to. It's actually a hard line to walk. Too boring and I start singing to fill in the blank in my head. (bad, really really bad and usually Christmas tunes because they're the only ones I seem to remember all the words to) so to save my family's hearing I try to refrain!

Stef said...

Love that Wall-E quilt!

I don't listen to anything when I quilt. I like the quiet.

I usually listen to talk back radio when I'm quilting. Or for that matter I have it on all the time when I'm home by myself. I got into this habit when I left work to have my first son. It felt like I was still in the adult world! My boys are now 14, 12 and 10 but I still listen to talk back!

I like it silent when I am quilting, but way too often I can hear Lord of the Rings playing in the den (while daughter and husband watch the dvd). The door is closed, but the non-stop music that runs the entire length of the movie wafts through the cracks and drives me crazy.

Actually, now that I think of it, I do enjoy listening to my daughter practice piano while I am at the sewing machine.

Always a little A&E or HGTV playing while I quilt just for background noise.

The Glee soundtracks. It keeps me happy :D

Music wise - The Black Eyed Peas. TV wise - CNN. You don't really have to pay much attention because they just say the same thing over and over.

I like listening to upbeat stuffs. Currently, it's a mix of Glee, Katy Perry, and the Black Eyed Peas. Now them's some good quiltin' music!

I really need a radio in my crafting room so I can listen to some talk radio. But if I'm really concentrating, it must be QUIET!

I have this great Pandora station I listen to when quilting. It's a combination of Jewel, The Wallflowers, and Rocco Deluca. It's awesome. :)

Oh, and when my girls are in the room, I add a little Jonas Brothers to the mix.

I used to have my CD's on all the time while sewing and then my CD player died. Now most of the time I have some weird movie on mostly for noise. I don't even watch many of them in all honesty.

I usually have movies on in the background that I've seen a hundred times but still love - anything Jane Austen or similar BBC series :)

I have the TV on in the sewing room for background noise... most times I put in a DVD and sew, sew, sew to the musicals...Chicago or Mama Mia are the favorites...

I like to listen to radio shows like Splendid Table.

I rarely listen to music at home! Usually the background noise when I'm sewing is some kiddie show (so the kids will let me sew for a few minutes) or a random HGTV show late at night.

I have 10 seasons of the old tv show, Murder She Wrote on dvds. I love Jessica Fletcher. I don't have to watch, just listening to the show and knowing she's there is comforting.

Well, I have been playing irish christmas music, lol.
I guess it is time to swap out the christmas cd's. I love to listen to irish music when I work, it stirs the creative flow.

I read about all these folks who have movies or TV going and just freak out! LOL I could not do it; I don't care how boring (bad, B-rated) the show was I'd be sneaking peeks. Can you imagine the bandaged fingers? I'll stick with music or just the sound of my machine!

Poppyprint said...

usually nothing, but the kids gave us appleTV for xmas, so now I can turn the TV up in the other room and listen to my iTunes playlist. I've been diggin' the new Mumford & Son's album almost as much as this amazing new book!

Sewhappy said...

No music for me, I sew when there is an opportunity, just me and the tick tick of the machine.

I put on the radio and listen to whatever they play....plus people call in and talk about what is happening in Australia/America/Europe....happy stitching

My son's ipod drowns out everything so I end up listening to that, like it or not! I also listen to the tv when I am home alone and sewing

Ohhh, looks like a very nice book with lots of lovely projects!

I listen to a lot of Depeche Mode when I quilt, I love how their music gives me time to think while still not leaving me alone with my thoughts if that makes any sense ^^

Wonderful quilting book! I have nothing going on in the background unless it's my two year old banging away on the piano. Or my little girlies laughing--that's really the best!

I like to stream Pandora, and change stations as my mood changes!
Thanks fora chance to win this wonderful book!

If it's Christmas and I'm sewing, I like gentle Christmas music in the background. If it's any other time, I work best with just quiet and no music. Thanks for the giveaway!

I usually put my ipod on shuffle and sew away.

Besides quilting, I am a jewelry nut! So I always have on a home shopping jewelry channel. It drives my husband batty, so he leaves me alone--not a bad thing when you want uninterupted quilting time :)

Sometimes I put a DVD in my laptop, or I choose something from Hulu...one time I watched a whole series of Dick Van Dyke for a few days...or I listen to sermons.

I'm going to look for the Quilt Remix book. I really want to make the quilt Walking Uphill Both Ways in the Snow...looks great!

Love the Wall-E quilt!! I alternate between music and BBC Radio podcasts. They have the best programs on history, science, ethics, psychology, etc. I learn a lot from the BBC and I feel I am engaging both sides of the brain if I'm listening to that and doing something crafty at the same time. Truly the best of both worlds. ;)
