I am in!!! I know a "real" postage stamp quilt is supposed to be all uniqe fabrics, but I don't like the lack of control...so thanks for this. And how big will this be in the end? Bed size? I have decided that's what I need to make....now to think about what jelly rolls I want...hmmm

Carol said...

Fun! I'm going to join, I've been wanting to do a postage stamp quilt too. Ok, I'm off to buy my jelly rolls.

I'm in! At least I am now, hope I can keep up...
I have some jelly rolls looking for a project, but no solids, I'll use stash scraps for that. Works for you?

Larri said...

It's a beautiful quilt, Rachel. Can a beginner complete this, or am I just setting myself up for failure? I've only made one quilt...doll size. And I'm sure I didn't make it according to all the rules. LOL

I'm in if you think it would make a good first-time quilt. Happy Monday! :o)

OMG you're so good at teaching with the quilt alongs. I've just never been able to finish any of them. I want so badly to do this one too; just don't know if I can with having 5 court costumes for Mardi Gras to make--and I am talking the lavish costumes! Guess I'll have to pass, but will be following along with y'all anyway! Just love your quilt alongs and all the neat stuff you show all of us. Shelly

Kate said...

Hahaha, I suggested buying more jelly rolls to my husband and he just glared. I do have some half yards I can slice into instead. Will it all be WOF strips or can I sneak some fat quarters in too?

Mary Grace McNamara said...

This is such a great opportunity to use up a Sent With Love jelly roll and some solid white yardage that I have on hand! This is my year to use up my stash in meaningful and creative ways, and this project fits right in! Of course I might have to do a little shopping for binding and backing, but that's ok!

I've already joined the Flickr group and can't wait to get started!

Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

Oh, I have a Central Park jelly roll just waiting for me to decide what to do with it. And with 14 yards of Kona Ash I think I can make my own solid jelly roll - hee hee!
btw - does finished just mean the quilt top? They aren't shipping yardage of Central Park yet so I wouldn't be able to back it.

Rachel, I so loved your last quilt along, I have to join this on, especially since I've always loved the look of a postage stamp quilt but wasn't brave enough to start one on my own :) But I'm sticking to my self-imposed moratorium and using my existing stash ... happen to have a couple of sweet KT jelly rolls to choose from and now an excuse to use them!! You rock, as always, Rachel! Thanks!!

I'm in! Placed my order with The Fat Quarter Shop, if anyone else from Australia is wondering they can fit 2 jelly rolls and 2 charm packs into a single flat rate envelope, how awesome is that! I bought Oasis and Antique Fair, couldn't decide which one and I didn't know which plain color I wanted to put with it until I saw it in person so there you go :) Hope they make it in time!

My MIL used to give a postage-stamp quilt to her new daughters-in-law on their first anniversary. It was totally handmade and done from the husband's old shirts and dresses of his sister(s) and mother.(FQ memories!) I treasured mine and now my daughter has it. It's a great project and one you're going to love. Have also crocheted one from leftover yarn pieces. Long story short, it's for me to make another. I'm in.

Wendy P said...

Ordered and already got my Lila Tueller "Spirit" for this one! So excited. I am making the quilt for my daughter, who is a Friends Freak just like you, Rachel!

What fun! Looking forward to seeing what people make.

I am already working on my own postage stamp quilts #5, 6, & 7 at the same time! #4 had 4096 pieces in it. I LOVE to make them, I use 2 inch squares and go completely scrappy, as in practically no duplicates.

I call these quilts "Big Hugs" and the scrappy ones are like I Spy quilts. See one at http://thecuriousquilter.wordpress.com/2010/09/19/another-big-hug-finishing-feels-great/

Being already buried in little squares, I will pass on your jelly roll quilts, but am glad to see anyone else catch the postage stamp 'bug!'

To Lisa, who responded in early January:

A "postage stamp" quilt is a quilt comprised of small pieces, usually 1" finished or smaller. You were thinking of a "Charm" quilt when you said the pieces all had to be "unique."

For an authentic charm quilt, you may only use each material once in the top.

Hope this clarifies things for you.
