welcome to the leg work part of the postage stamp quilt along yall.
:)

postage stamp quilt along: leg work

first things first...
unwrap those yummy jelly rolls & divide your strips into color groups.

yall will need to make 16 strip sets total.
8 strip set a's and 8 strip set b's.

tip: if yall get a little overwhelmed with the thought of making 16 strips sets...
make 4 strip sets a day for the next 4 days.
easy peasy.

now make those strip sets until the cows come home.
& we'll meet back up next week.

tip: always press towards the color strips when making strip sets.
this will ensure perfect seams once we do the patchwork part.

i can't wait to start seeing yall's strip sets show up in the flickr pool.
:^)

I'm so excited. I just want to go home and start sewing, but I think they might notice my empty office.

I wanna sew!

Okay so I have less strips because I'm using that Hope Valley roll... I can either get 4 a's and 6 b's with no left overs, or 5 a's and 4 b's with some left overs OR 4 of each with lots. What do you think? Do I need an equal number of both groups? Thanks!

ok I'm sooo new to this. Been sewing for 40 years but quilting! I've made one quilt top that remains unquilted for 8 years.. Ok my question. I have 6 colors and we need 8a's and 8b's. Should I just start with the 1st colors and work out those. Then with the remaining, if any, should I just do those and start the next color. I'm confused.. Sorry.. really want to start :).

It looks like a lot of fun, but I have too many other projects going on right now to add another! Will you be doing another quilt along this year?

I can't decide what jelly rolls to use!!! Luna Notte, Blush Gray, Bliss, or Fresh Flowers. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no! I was so excited to be in the running but I live in Australia and with all the floods in Queensland I may not even have a house to go back to let alone a sewing machine! Oh no...I really wanted to play :(

Well since I may not be able to do it you other Ladies have to do an extra fantastic job!

I should NOT be doing this!!!
My resolution for 2011 was to NOT start another project until I finish something...

But, resolutions get broken sometimes. I have all my strips ready! Can't wait to see what we all do.

Mine are Americana/r/w/b and neutrals.

I have no time, but I think I am in. I think I will cut up some of my Bliss into strips and use that along with linen as my solid! I only have 14 of the Bliss fabics, but I think that will still be enough variety, don't you?

UPS delivered my fabric today - I was worried since it's been snowing here all day - love that UPS guy!

This is my first time doing a quilt along. I decided to jump right in and made 6 strip sets today. This is going to be a lot of fun.

I am so excited for this project! I have laid out my jelly roll strips and am wondering if there is a method for deciding your color combinations- like if you keep all the blues together or if you want to try and use all the different colorways of the fabric in each "grouping"- By the way I am using Fandago. Everyone's pictures on flickr are great, thanks for doing this!

Kristin Wilson said...

Once your strips are divided into colors, do you use all of one color family and then move to the next or do you alternate?

I realize it's probably up to the quilter person, but which looks best?

Thanks!!

Hi Rachel, Just wanted to add my name to the long list of quilt along buddies, I'm a bit of a late comer, but I ordered the fabric a couple days ago, and can't wait for it to arrive so I can get started!

Just finished my strip sets last night. Did them all at once - whew!

My quilt isn't going to be as colorful as others, I'm making a MAN quilt out of gold/brown/blue shirtings.

Valerie C. said...

Like some of the others here, first time QA...so, "dumb question" - a color strip is sewing these together along the long edge in the colors/solids arrangements listed?

Mary Kay said...

I just got my jelly rolls from the Fat Quarter Shop! Put all the strip sets together and was disappointed to find out I am one strip short of the white solid. Is anyone else having that problem?

jennB said...

oddly enough Mary Kay, My white roll had one extra white strip...maybe your missing strip got stuck in my jelly roll!

Elena said...

Hi!
I'm just getting my sets together and realized my jelly roll has pinked edges. That makes it harder to follow the 1/4" seam. Any tips for sewing with pinked edges?

Thank you! :)

Wanting to jump in late...I have 32 strips left from a Make Life project...does the finished quilt HAVE to be the size listed to be in the running for prizes? Just trying to figure if I need to get some coordinating fabrics or if I can get started...thanks!!!

bethanndodd said...

OR could I use a honey bun and still be in the running? I have an Arcadia honey screaming to be used! THanks!

am I too late to join? Just ordered my solid jelly roll.

Got my fabric about two days ago. I am using Tea Garden Design Roll, Dena Designs for Free Spirit Fabrics & Bella Solids Clover that I will have to cut into strips myself. I really liked the idea of the green background. Made me think of spring. I am excited to get started. Gonna start cutting my strips and sewing tonite! Gotta catch up!

Terri said...

I just found this & want to join in too!!! Off to find some jelly rolls today. And will make a start after that. Looking forward to it.
