my original pinwheel sampler is 79"x79"

since this one won't be exact, but close, i'm projecting it to be in the neighborhood of 70" square.
{give or take a few inches.}

Me me me!! I hate sewing pinwheels but I love the look of them! I'm so inspired every time I look at your pinwheel sampler...I'm so in. :) (I have a Wild Thing quilt sorta kinda started - I'll have to work on it to get good and practiced on the pinwheels!)

How Fun Rachel! I think I would like to try this. My question is, if I don't purchase layer cakes, but use the fabric on hand, how much do I need? Also, how big does this turn out, because I will probably make it into a bed spread for a queen sized quilt.
Thanks

quiltergirl said...

The quilt is amazing. I want to join in but feel like I'd fall off the wagon and wind up with another UFO. I love your blog and you have inspired me to up the quilting anti this year! I wound up with 4 finished last year. I'm hoping to at least quadruple it this year, but it's not starting off so great.

Jonathan said...

Yay, how fun! I probably shouldn't start another new project, but I can't resist;-) Count me in!

Anonymous said...

Soooo tempted, just not sure I have the time!

Erin said...

Hey Quiltergirl. You can do it! It may take me all year too to finish it. You just need to set a realist goal for yourself. I am guessing that not everyone will finish at the same time, it is like taking a test in high school, you have to go at your own speed. You should do it and have fun, don't think of it as a choir or something you have to get done at a certain time. Take your time and have fun!

Hope you join in, and if you need some cheering on, I am here.

B. said...

I'm trying to decide if I'm brave enough to try this! I might need a night to think about it all . . . . but if it turns out as great as yours, can't you just make one for me????

soooooo tempting!!!!

I've never done a quilt along before.

I want to be IN, but, you see, I'm what you call a detail girl. I am that pesty, pesky type that needs to ask a few or forty questions first and over analyze the concept of quilting-a-long while shopping obsessively for layer cake sales.

What can I say? There's one in every crowd.

What is the relative time commitment? Do you post instructions daily? Weekly? Just curious about how much sewing we would need to do to keep up. If we opt for fat quarters or scraps, what total yardage do we need of those?

Whew. I think I'm done.

THANKS!

Count me in! I just love your sampler, and have been collecting pinwheel blocks to do, but always get stuck deciding how much fabric to buy; a layer cake is a great idea! In fact, I have a layer cake of Birdie, so that's perfect!
Thank you for the invitation. I was feeling bummed about not getting in on the signature swap fast enough.

Luanne said...

I love that quilt too! I don't know if I will be able to get any done, but I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone else's!!

Rachel ~ could I ask what the fabric was in the pinwheel quilt you link to? It is beautiful, and I wondered if that was a specific layer cake or just a variety of fabrics. Thanks! I'm considering joining in although I'm already committed to another quilt-along, too, beginning in a couple of weeks!

Dumb question tho, will you be showing a picture of the finished top before we get started?

Congrats Rachel on 400 posts. That's a lot of dedication and work!
You came at a perfect time for this quilt-a-long. I'm trying to use some stash this year, and this would give me a nice plan. And 70" sounds like the perfect size. Not too small, not too big. Love it.
And I really like the wonky block that looks like a triange in a triangle from your previous pinwheel sampler.

yummy!!yummy!! thanks for sharing your favorite thing!! I am new to your blog but within minutes I am now a faithful follower and have now subscribed as I don't want to miss a minute of inspiration. SEW WONDERFUL!! THANKYOU!! Your Modern siggy swap looks so yummy as well.
unfortunately i missed out on that. But as I wait for the next one it has given me an idea for a thanksgiving quilt. For the last 2 years our family has had a blessing bowl out during the month of November. We write on little strips of paper what we are thankful for. And then on Thanksgiving day after we are done eating we each take 2-3 slips of paper out of the bowl and read them together. Instead of the signitures on the quilt blocks I thought I could write the things that we are thankful for from the slips of paper. Making the blocks out of Autumn colors! Rachel May I?? use your block pattern?? Thank you, maybe others will be imspired with this idea while we wait for another exchange!
WARM HUGS! it's cold in Iowa!

I'm in! I got my siggy blocks done today so I can commit to something new! I have the same question as everyone else... if using fat quarters/stash, how many different fabrics do you recomend. If using a Layer Cake, will it use it all? I was going to get a charm pack to cut for coins, but if we will have leftovers here, maybe I can kill two birds.

Thanks!!!

I'm in if I'm not too late. I might use FQs from my cupboard - then again I may just have to buy a new layer cake! Hmm, sounds like a plan.
Congrats on baby 4, fours more fun (have to say that, I have four).

Sounds great and I'll join! I'm going to gather fabrics today, I think I can use this as a great stash buster. :)

Crud, I just broke my own rule, "no new projects until most of my WIPs were done." Mmm- such is life! :D
