i'd like to introduce yall to melly.
i'm in love. again.
this one tugs on my heartstrings.
my daughter miss melanie was the inspiration for this quilt.
♥
so why was melanie my inspiration?!?!
i wanted a "hope chest" quilt for her.
growing up in the south, all young gals looked forward to a hope chest.
a hope chest is a homemade cedar chest that is filled with treasures you will need, use & love when you marry your special someone.
every girl needs a hope chest.
her daddy makes it & her momma fills it.
and NO hope chest is complete without a quilt!!! <--that's a fact.
my design notes for this quilt:
something timeless
show off bigger chunks of yummy prints
use simplistic piecing
utilize lots o' bella solids
i think i nailed it.
*wink*
quilt stats:
fabric = buttercup by fig tree quilts for moda
size = 65" x 65"
quilting = darla padilla
btw: miss lindsey is 6 months old now {eeek} & she's totally in love with her sister's quilt.
and guess what?!?!
yall can get kits at fat quarter shop. HERE.
single patterns are available HERE. {& HERE.}
fyi: flipside exceeded my expectation in terms of sales.
we had to send them out in batches. <--thanks yall!!!
so because of that...i've taken measures to ensure that melly makes it out the door faster. promise.
:D
if you are a shop that is interested in purchasing melly...

Another stunning quilt. Perfect for a hope chest.
your clarity on simple patterns allowing darling fabrics to play the role in the quilt is spot on!

Your daughter looks so beautiful on that quilt :-) I think this is a great pattern, very lovely, I think I might want to try it when I get these other quilts I'm working on, out of the way :-)
*love*
I have a hope chest and it's probably my most treasured piece of furniture. No daughters, though. :( Maybe I can pass it down to a grandbaby one day.
Oh love this so much!!!!
Charming quilt - perfect colors
Pure perfection..both the quilt and Ms. Lindsey!
Rachel, I love "Melly"!
I grew up with a hope chest too, but a word of advise... build "help chests" for your boys. My brothers were so sad when my sisters and I left for college with our chests. For five years they been calling me to borrow simple things my mother put in them! For Christmas we pulled together help chests- Ive never seen the boys so excited for quilts and sheets and measuring cups.
Oh Rachel I just got an email from the Fat Quarter Shop with yhour pattern featured and I was so excited for you.... Fame....
Hugs Gloria
PS The Melly quilt is just so cute!
Oh my, I adore this quilt! I have some Tula Pink Neptune fabric I have been stashing...this pattern could work! :)

I also had a hope chest growing up :). It sits at the foot of my bed now, with all my treasures from my childhood. my mom said it was something to take with me so i would never forget where i came from :).

I love that you did blocks that show off large pieces of a fabric. Sometimes it's almost painful to cut a fabric into small pieces. This is going on my list of "patterns I really, really need!"
I love your Melly quilt. The fabrics are so luscious.
Rachel,
I finished my Melly quilt tonight!
I love the pattern and choice of fabrics too. I'm going to take pictures tomorrow when the sun is out and blog about it.
I'm hoping to get the backing ready and mailed to my quilter mid week.
Thanks for a great pattern.
