that is the question.
do yall label your blog posts???
i see alot of blogs that do, and alot that don't.
i've been pondering labeling for a while now.
i just can't decide if i should continue not labeling...
or start labeling.
note to add: i'm not asking about if i should title my post.
i will always have post titles.
i'm talking about the keywords you add to the bottom of your post...labels.
so talk to me.
let me know why i should be labeling.
or let me know why not labeling is okay.
either way...please give your opinion.
and for those inquiring minds...

who cares about labels you have a bake shop box?? and you haven't shared!!!
Sometimes I pick whether or not I am gonna read that one based on the label. So keep labeling, please. I don't have time to read all, so I read what catches my eyes...and normally I want pics to go with it. Call me a visual learner.
I always feel like my post isn't complete without a title, and when I go through my blog reader, the title is sometimes what makes me pause and read a blog or skip past it that day (depending on how much time I have as I follow waaaaayy too many!). I say title it if you have a title, and if you don't want to that day then don't. Nothing says it has to be one or the other! P.s. Love the Aviary fabric, I have a charm pack all sectioned out to make your quilted grocery bag holder :)
I like it when you put titles, because it makes it easier to find what I'm looking for when I search through my "starred" posts in google reader! Of course I have a lot of yours starred!
I label as well. I haven't really thought about not labelling. I would say label. Sometimes I go back later and want to re-read posts, and the labels help me to remember who wrote what. Whatever you choose to do, I enjoy reading your blog.
I like labels, but I'd read your blog even without them =). Sometimes I forget to put a label on mine, and for some reason it doesn't feel complete, so I go back and add one. Funny.
I always give my posts a title....I think it completes the post and it helps, (like the other comments) to establish if you want to read further....I love your jelly rolls!
Rachel Griffith, NOT label? Rachel Griffith miss an opportunity to add some witty piece of pizzazz to her literary efforts? Puh-leeeeze! You know you need to label, Rachel! A lot of the time it keeps us guessing until we've actually read what you wrote. Like this one. I naturally assumed you meant "quilt label" ... and it had nothing to do with that! You're so funny!
I'm thinking the purpose of labeling is so that someone can easily find something they have read in the past? Anyways, I see you have the links to your tutorials on the right, so finding the instructions when I'm ready to play is easy enough that way! Going to try the Christmas table topper soon! (like, hopefully, maybe, before Christmas?!?!?) LOL! :-)
I haven't even noticed that you don't label your blog posts. It must not matter. I often use labels as a way to introduce.but sometimes it's hard to come up with something catchy.
From the replies, it seems some are referring to a TITLE for a post....but when I think of "labels", I think of the option that blogspot gives to label your posts with one or more words that categorize the post for you. I do that 99.9% of the time. This makes it easier for ME to go back and FIND a certain post if I want to refer to it again in my blog. So...for me, it's worth it to take the extra few seconds to put labels on my posts. So...if you meant labels (and not TITLES), that is my two-cents' worth on the topic!
I agree with Pat. If you're referring to labels, they help a new reader find similar topics they are interested in if they haven't followed you for a while. I've read back posts on topics to get to know the blogger better and the labels help out a ton in that respect.
Hmmm, I don't label, but it's just because when I started blogging (two or three blogs ago - and years) they didn't have the option. I tried once or twice but I always forget so I just don't bother. LOL* But I do use other people's labels once in a while. So I guess it's just up to you.
i do not label, it takes up way to much time, and quite frankly i do not see the sense in it for me. i never search for anything that i need labels for.
I label. But then I use my blog as a calendar/diary of my quilting journey. Labels are more for me than for my readers. I mainly seem to use them when I am in my 'Dashboard' at 'Edit Posts', because I can click on the label on the left side of the screen and blogger will show only the posts that use that label. So if I am looking for something I don't have to scroll through ALL 800 posts that I have made. HTH.
Well I have you on the reader notification. So I know when you have posted and that's the indicator for me...I like to label because it's a starting point for my blog I think.
Now, I posted Work Shop which my sweetie has organized and I don't expect many comments on that. But it's always nice to receive them anyway..
I think Labels are a wonderful addition to any quilt - especially if it is a gift - you want to be remembered - and I think it lends an heirloom quality:)
I always label, that way if you ever wanted to back and find that post about a certain project, etc, it just makes it easier. But that is my own lowly opinion.
I only label for my own convenience. It helps when I want to refer to a past item or to link someone to it. It just helps me find it easier. I have a personal blog also and it's an absolutely necessity there or I'd never find anything after all this time, LOL! It's not such a big deal on my sewing blog as I just started it and stuff is easier to find right now. Do whatever works for you. I don't think most people notice the title if you use one. Cindy
I always label my posts on my design blog. I think it helps me find ideas when I want to reference them.
Labels are not only good for a reader to be able to find an older post. They are also good for "SEO" (search-engine optimization). Basically search engines look at your labels. If your post is well-labeled, you're more likely to get blog traffic from google searches on related topics. So if you label something "quilt, moda aviary, tutorial," then someone googling "I need a tutorial for a moda aviary quilt" is more likely to find you.
This is what happens when you go to a one-day blogging conference: just enough knowledge to be a danger to yourself and others. :-)

I say label. I wasn't labeling for about the first year of blogging and ended up going back and labeling everything. It makes it easier for me and my readers to browse my sight or find certain kinds of posts. Like I have a "finished quilts" and "finished knitting" labels so that if someone wants to just see my completed work they can do that. I find it very helpful to have labels.
I like labels because it unites posts that have a common theme. the key is to finding the right labels for your posts. I am trying to use as little labels as possible. I will name a project from the get go and use the name on the label so I can click o the label and see the progression from stage one. I also use UFO and Completed, then there is the universal Life label for my non-quilty venting. It's all about personal choice. Either way, remember there is no Blog police!
Yes, we do so that it is easy to reference them for future interest in our files. TTFN~ Marydon
I don't lable. Really I don't need to add one more thing to my list of stuff to do. I notice that people lable but I have never used them. I figure it is my blog I don't have to if I don't want to.
Sometimes I label, sometimes I don't. I do find that labeling helps me find older posts I did on a subject when I want to refer back to them or just check the progress I made on one of my long term projects.
I only label because me and my sisters post about diverse things, but if we were say, only making quilts, etc. I don't think we would. No need.
I label my posts, because I think it helps my readers navigate my blog easily ... especially if they are new!
I can barely get a post up...who has time to label? Do people actually go back to read old posts?
i have been labeling for a while now, for my own purposes really...if I want to look at ONLY my quilt posts, then there i find it. Do what is right for YOU, no one else ;) hugs girly!

I like labels and I use them all the time. it is preference, I guess.

I didn't read all of the comments, so this may be a repeat, buuuuut, I like labeling for my own purposes. Then when I try and find a post about a bag I made, I can click on bags and it narrows down the field if I can't remember when I wrote it. I wish I had been more selective and concise when I started labeling so I didn't have so many different categories, but it's a work in progress. I think if you a new reader comes to visit it's a nice way for them to read by subject if they want. And yes, sometimes labeling can be funny!
I don't label. I'm just to lazy for it!
Hi Rachel, I've never labeled, but a while back I wanted a friend to see some of the house posts...I think it would have helped if I'd had labels....tried to figure out how, but came to a dead end!
Cheers!
I always label because if anyone is looking for a particular project they will find it easier with a label (presuming someone could find something in my blog interesting lol)
Anyways, I couldn't care less is you label or not because I will still read your blog, and will be more than happy reading it over again if I had to lol

I like to label, later when I am looking something up, I can go to my labels and type that in, then all those posts with that label come up. It is good for my references.

Most of the time I just forget. Whether you label or not, I still love reading your blog!
Eh... sometimes it helps when you are looking for like a tutorial or something.. but its all good!
I think labeling is useful because anything you can do to help your visitors find info they're looking for is a good thing.
I prefer labeling because it is a very useful tool for myself. Whenever I visit other people's blog. I look up their labels and find the one that I am looking for.
quilting, sewing in particular.
I've had my blog for a while. When I first started labeling, the sidebar showed every single label I had for every single post. It wasn't very pretty, so I took it off.
I need to do some "housecleaning" on my blog, and maybe I will try labeling everything again. I do like labels, and it does make it easier for people to find posts that are of interest to them.
labels help those of us with feed readers (Google Reader) click through to your post to leave comments - makes it very easy
I don't know what labeling is so I can't give you an opinion. I guess I more to learn.
Hi R, I don't label because I don't know how and haven't taken the time to learn...I think they are handy, tho'. Maybe if someone figures out how to get more hours out of a day then I'll be able to add them to my blog...Love your blog either way;)
I like labels but Rachel, I would read your blog anyway!
Labels are a must. Especially if you want people searching for things like you post to find your blog.
Labels are my friend. And IMHO they should be EVERY BLOGGERS friend. My 3 biggest pet peeves of blogging: No Labels. Grrrr. No-Reply Comment. Grrrr. Word Verification. Grrrr. I feel ALL Blogs should be labeled. Everyone should have an email associated with their blog. ESPECIALLY if they're going to ask questions. And I know several bloggers that won't leave a comment if there is word verification. Labels are quick and easy and painless to do and make it so much nicer for your readers. That's what me thinks anyway.
I'll read your post with or without labels...yours and Camille's are the two I check every day...
i label. i find it easier than if i'm looking for something on my blog. but i don't do what i call over labeling. i've seen some blogs that label the post(quilting) fabric(moda) pattern(pinwheel) but than it would make things even easier to search for. hmmmmmm
hi Rachel, my two cents is I label because it's easier to find my posts later on. typepad calls them "categories" and I have them listed on my sidebar. I get a lot of clicks on my blog each day on the the different categories (I guess because people are looking for something specific). hope that helps!
I label because I like to reference posts before so i don't have to repeat myself. *I haven't done it in awhile but it's nice to have when I do.
And for like Connor's journal, when I print off the blog, I'll just go through the Connor labels and see what happened.
I'm surprised with your OCDness that you even have to ponder this! :)
Someone had just posted a finished quilt this morning, and I checked out her label about that quilt to see if she had mentioned the name of the pattern, designer, etc. I think labels come in handy.
I really like labeling my posts - when I made a long term quilt, it was wonderful to click on the label and see that I was truly making progress - that it wasn't as slow as it seemed. And seeing all those progress pictures was a really nice sight. It also helps me see when the last time was that I finished something.
I like labels, when I go to a new blog I like to be able to just click on "quilting" and see all the person's quilt projects instead of scrolling back forever. I just went back and labeled all my posts to the beginning, since I didn't used to label.
I like labels. They make it easier for me to go back and find all my "same" entries. I try and keep mine rather generic with the occassional "project specific" label when the project is going to take awhile. g
I don't normallt label my posts. Sometimes can't think of one, others just don't. I do think that labeling helps them be picked up in searches easier. But I could just be making that up.
#2. Love your choice of music!!! I linked your blog to my facebook homepage. Here it is:

I like labels as you can tell someone to look through a topic to find something easily.
Saves you having to find where it was and give the link.
It was in the bags or the recipes section. etc
