and then some.
i know for a fact, that i've had this denyse schmidt fabric for over two years.
two years that it's just been sitting there.
why?
i'm not sure exactly.
every time i think i have something planned for it, i change my mind and use something else.
i do need to make something with it, though. dang.

I'm a hoarder, too - usually because I can't decide what the perfect pattern for it would be. What's kind of funny is I have that exact same stack in one of my hoarding bins!
Hoard!!! That is the only way to be creative in my book. Variety is the spice of life. Some fabrics are so pretty....I mean so pretty if you cut them you risk the chance of what you make to not be AS pretty. It is difficult gamble because, as you know, the opposite is true and you can love it even more when done. Then...you must decide to keep, sell, give or Hoard all over again!

Hi my name is Jody and I am a fabric hoarder.
It just looks so nice all packaged up together in a pile or in a roll that I hate to open it up and cut it.
sometimes I hoard but I really like to USE my fabric! I had a stack of that same DS fabric for a while. Made the blue/limegreen stack into a lovely quilt that we use all the time! I do think I still have a stack of reds though, including some that were sent to me from Australia. They are supposed to become placemats for my kitchen. Adding it to my list now...
Only 2 years..... I have had fabric for 8 plus years. It is usually fabric that I 'love' and I am waiting to find a pattern or additional fabric to go with it.
To quilt is to stash.... not hoard.

I am a hoarder for sure. Part of me hates to cut really beautiful fabric because I'm afraid of messing it up. Part of me is holding out for just the perfect pattern. The funny thing is I always love what I make, because I loved the fabric first. My goal is to not buy anything new until I have used at least half of my stash.
Unfortunately I am a hoarder. I wish I wasn't, but I am. There, I confess.

Hoard is such an ugly word, I prefer the word collect....it doesn't make me feel as bad! Lol! I "collect" fabric sounds so much better than I "hoard" fabric, right? I have a hard time using it because I think wellllll, maybe it'd look. Enter with a different project. Or, I just have a hard time cutting it! I can't decide! Lol!
I have been hoarding a stash of Denyse Schmidt fabric, too, Flea Market Fancy reprints I scavenged the internet to find. I think I have 13 yards of it. I love it so much I do not want to use it all up, and when I think of cutting up that beauty, what if I do not do it justice?? I finally convinced myself to use it for a quilt-along I joined, but almost talked myself into using a fat quarter bundle of Bees Knees instead.....
Yes I hoard. But for various reasons. Some I am almost afraid to cut into fabric if I don't have the perfect pattern for it. But what I'm horrible about is non quilting fabric that might be good for something else - a costume, doll clothes, crafts, projects. I easily have 2 or 3 bins of non quilting fabric I think I ought to pair down.
What's funny is that it doesn't stop me from wanting more!!
I am also a DS hoarder! I have a big problem with buying fabric I like and then never finding quite the right project. I STILL have Three Sisters Chocolat from at least 5 years ago. I also have a lot of Free Spirit designer's fabrics - Joel Dewberry, Valorie Wells, etc. - that I am hoarding. However, I have been trying to use up some older stuff in the past couple of months and am finally making a dent in some Ginseng that I had been collecting.
I am 70, and am a hoarder. I don't apologize, it's my therapy, it's my pick-me-up when I'm down, I stroke the lovely fabrics I own, and feel better immediately. My mother, who was 99 when she died, would ask me when we shopped, "now what will you make with that.?" I would say, I have no idea, I just have to possess it!
Awe, I made a picnic quilt with that fabric...been using it this year already. =)
I do have a stash...that I hope to make some things from...so while I can't use it, I guess I'm hoarding it. I have some Terrain...and a few other pieces that were for me.

I think the reason you can't cut that pile is because it is sooo perfectly stacked. Ball it up and get it messy and you'll feel less reticent.
I am stock piling fabric for my retirement - it's still a good 20 years away though!
HI, my name is Kathie, and I am a fabric hoarder. I need a 12-step program, lol. Although I am trying to buy less and use more of what I have. I just trash-picked two upholstered dining room chairs from a neighbor, because I have some cute home dec fabric that I bought 4 years ago, to re-cover them in. So it took me that long to find a use for it.
I hoard. Sometimes I have this great fabric then I think, once I use it, it will be gone.
I hoard. They release beautiful fabrics faster than I can sew AND I hang on to some of it just waiting for the PERFECT pattern to present itself. Bad combination. I'll take that bundle off of your hands if it would help. ;)
Yes. I am a hot hoarding mess, also. Well, not really hoarding for hoarding's sake, more a FABRIC LOVER.
Hoarder is such an ugly word. I am a collector! I just found a FQ stack of blue plaids and stripes that I have had for at least ten years. I will admit I had lost track of it. But I usually know what I have stashed even if its not in plain sight.
I hoard. It is usually because I have bought new fabric before I have decided what to do with what I have!
Oh don't bring fall on too soon. It will probably be hot as all get out until December here on the coast. I don't consciously hoard fabric but I do have some stacks that have been around awhile. I don't think I'll hesitate to use them when the right project comes along.
I confess, I'm a hoarder of my resources. Although, recently I joined a quilt-along and used fabric from resources for everything but the background/contrast fabric. I'm so proud of myself! LOL
I hoard for each and every one of the reasons you mentioned :). And I have already completed one Halloween quilt, pieced another and purchased fabric for a Thanksgiving themes table runner--so I can't wait to see your fall projects!
Oh my yes! I hoard fabric like there is no tomorrow. I have so many plans running through my head for all of it, just the problem of so little time!
But I really have to use up some more of it soon as I am running out of space... I mean I surely have room for more quilts, right?!

I have a couple Little Apples charm packs that I've been saving for the perfect project...I just haven't figured out what that is yet!
I have been known to buy two jelly rolls . . . one to use & one just to look at or buy extra fat quarters . . . just to keep beautifully folded & please, fabric lady, don't put that in a bag . . I want it in the passenger seat so I can admire it all the way home. Think I should invite a seat belt for fabric should I wreck? I know . . . bad hoarder but fabric is just so beautiful! There was a time I bought & bought just because it was so gorgeous but very little was getting used so now I just buy what I need to finish a project or complete requirements for a project frankly because I just can no longer afford it and that's probably a good thing. It still brings me joy, however so why question it, right? Oh, by the way, I will be glad to take that Denyse Schmidt off your hands and hoard it a little while for you. ;)
I have some of that same DS fabric, and like you I think I will make this or that, but just can't cut into it yet ;-) I love my fabric. It reminds me of a beautiful field of flowers that never goes to seed.
I am embarrassed to say most of my friends are not quilt worthy let alone one that is made from my favorite prints. I started a quilt last week that I just cannot part with because the fabric is too, too pretty. A little crazy, I know. but you understand.
I don't see it as hoarding. That's my story and am sticking to it :-)
Yes, I've hoarded fabric. However, once I finally cut into it and make something, I always feel better because now I have all the wonderful fabrics in one quilt.
It's not hoarding. It's being prepared. We all admire people who are prepared for any circumstance, right? You are just well prepared, that's all. And in good company too! ;)

I can't say I'm a fabric hoarder.... Yet! I've just recently gotten into quilting, and I've ordered my first set of fabric... Lol, I'm sure I'll be joining the club soon as beautiful fabrics is what has gotten me involved to start with!

My personal collection goes back to 1973. But then someone's grandmother passes and they tell me, 'I know you know what to do this all this" as they give it to me. I don't think I have any earlier than the 40s and 50s.
Fabric is the paint I create with. And I need aLLLLLLL the colors!
I definitely hoard fabric. Sometimes it's because I really like a piece of fabric and then have to wait until I find something to go with it. Sometimes it's because some fabric was particularly cheap and I know I'll use it at some point (I find this tends to apply to backing fabrics!). Sometimes I'll buy a range I love and have to wait to find the right pattern. Other times it's fabric I love, know what I want to do with it but I just don't get the time to make it!
You don't need to hoard those fabulous colors...just send them to me instead!!
I hoard, but then when I finally get the courage up and cut into it, I am so happy with the finished product.

Hoarder sounds so bad but its so true! My issue is I can buy so much easier and quicker than I can sew! And I know if I dont buy it when I see it then it will be gone or cost way more when I have to buy a little here and there (online and pay shipping) so if I love I buy and save for just the right project.
I hoard it because I love it. I love the way it looks stacked, rolled, whatever. It has to have the perfect pattern. And I'm indecisive and have a fear of commitment. So far in my first year of sewing I have yet to complete a single project using the fabric I initially purchased for said project. Lol love all the confessions :)
I, too, am a " fabric collector/hoarder/stroker/admirer ", but prefer the title of "Fabric Curator" ! lol
I rationalize that the fabric I don't use will become "vintage" stash for some lucky quilters in the future!

If I use it, I usually give it away (or sell it). If I don't use it, then I get to continue looking at it and enjoying it. Kinda like the wedding china never used ... sad, but true.
I definitely hoard . . . and way more than my budget allows for too. Embarrassed to say I've had some fabric for years. I guess I have this need to have the perfect project for it. I'm getting much better though and trying hard to work through some of this stash. If only I would stop buying. The Scrappy Trip along might be my best bet yet for using up some of the old old stuff.

I think I buy more fabric than I have time to sew up, so it naturally looks like I'm hoarding. {grin} I almost always have a project in mind for the fabric I buy, group my prints into sets, pair 'em up with a pattern/idea (and sometimes even the binding and backing fabric to complete the project!), and oh, shiny. {wink}
OMG! I wish I could say I don't hoard fabric. My stash is obnoxious. I have 3 empty bedrooms (sons have grown and moved out years ago) and their former closets are full of fabrics. Lately though I have been trying to be disciplined about what fabrics to buy. Meaning it already has a planned pattern so when the fabric arrives I print out the pattern and pin it to the collection. Then I add the pattern to a list of quilts I want.
I confess, I am a hoarder, sometimes I just can't bear to cut into it. I do love to fondle it often and ream of the day that I actually will use it. lol

I don't hoard on purpose. I just buy more fabric than I have time to use. I don't have any hoarding tendencies in the sense that I can't bear to use fabrics. I want to use them. I just am not as fast as I would like to be.
My SH tells me I am a hoarder, I guess I might be, but it is all for a good cause-cause I make charity quilts I enjoy-lol. I do not want to cut it up, the fq's look great as is. LOL
No, I don't hoard fabric- I'm 20, in college, and only am able to buy enough to complete a project (and that's usually fabric from estate sales, goodwill, vintage sheets, etc). Too broke to be a hoarder!
Do stamp collectors ever USE the stamps? So you must be a fabric collector! If it makes you happy, what's the difference?
Yes, I do hoard my favorites, but sometimes I feel the need to just "do something" suddenly with them. Those are usually my favorite things to sew.
Yes, that is the question...and the answer is YES! Most times I wait and let the fabric speak to me, then, I cut it up and make something...ahhhhh!!!!!
I hoard fabric, and I'll tell you my logic. I love some fabric so much that if I use it, then I won't have it anymore and I'll miss having it and being able to look at it. It's a sickness but I don't care :)

Eek, OK I admit to being a hoarder. I just can't cut into it for the exact reasons you said. I think it's that I want to save it in case I find THE perfect pattern. BTW, those blue and red dot fabric in your stash are my favorite fabric to use ever! They go with every project I make
I definitely hoard fabric! I buy entire collections with no project in mind. I hardly ever get time to sew therefore I have tons and tons and tons of fabric. I buy fabric all the time, in stores, online, anywhere!
I'm an unintentional fabric hoarder. I seem to buy faster than I can use it, so some ends up just sitting in piles. I have become better about buy for specific projects but some still sneaks in to my stash.
In 1992, I worked in a quilt shop for a year, and bought enough fabric for all of us. In 2010, I unearthed it so I could finally start my quilting hobby (life got in the way, needless to say). I looked at those 18-19 year old fabrics and cracked up! They now reside in crocheted rag rugs. I am trying to learn to use fabrics and while I have a big stash, I don't want to find the same fabrics years from now in those bins. OH...PS...I have a huge bin of DS fabrics I hoard. OK, so there.
