resolutions or words?

03 January 2013

new bright palette roll ups. (kona solid)s
i don't know about y'all, but i tend not to make resolutions.
not that i have anything against it.
i just don't really make them.
i do, however, like the simplicity of choosing a word for the year.

after giving it some thought, i've chosen productive as my word.
i was quite productive this past year, where my book was concerned, but i feel like i let other things slip.

so, here's to a very productive year for ps i quilt and rachel griffith designs.

do y'all have make resolutions or pick words?
feel free to share.

I'm not usually a resolution maker, but this year feels different for me for whatever reason. I have so many projects I want to get finished and things I want to try, that I just had to sit down and make a list. So I guess my word is productive too. Good luck with your word!

Love the idea of picking a word for the year! I like to make resolutions and this year I'm also making a detailed plan of how I'm going to succeed in my goals. But I think I might have to pick a theme word too....and it just might have to be "Productive!"

I agree - no resolution but resolve. I resolve to be "experimental" this year. I am fairly new to quilting but am ready to try new things. And thank you, Rachel, for sharing your talent :)

I guess my resolution is to complete my UFO's. Also to learn how to FMQ.

Last year, I made a list of 27 things to do while I was 27 (my birthday happens to be Dec. 31st, so this basically doubles as a New Year's resolution list, whether I want it to or not!) I had so much fun doing the stuff on the list and checking it off, I'm doing it again this year for 28. Many of the things are fun things, some are important, big-kid things, but it's such a great feeling having achievable goals and checking them off the list.

I don't make resolutions. I haven't been quilting that long to really need a 'word', but due to some family situations I have to go with simplifying this years line up of activities.

I don't make resolutions because I don't keep them...lol. My word for this year would be 'inspiration'; I have started meeting once a week with a few friends to sew or at least talk about sewing.I normally just make bedsize quilts...they inspire me to do some smaller fun projects like runners, pillows, etc.

my word for 2013 is Strength.

Balance - life last year was definitely skewed towards work. This year I am aiming for a balanced life.

I love picking a word instead of a resolution! Mine for 2013 is SIMPLIFY... I can't wait. :)

I don't know that it is resolutions as much as it is goals I set for myself. I would like to do things, and if I don't do it one day that is okay there is no resolution that is broken, I just keep trying to do it the next day. Like keeping my house cleaner. If I don't clean one day, it is still okay to clean the next day.

My word is "focus." I get so caught up in things (new projects, for example) when I need to be concentrating on deadlines! Same goes for my job. :)

I typically don't make resolutions or pick words. I have found that in the past I just get frustrated or depressed if I don't end up following through with resolutions. So now I just take every day as it comes and try to be a better person.

I have to admit that I do both -- I pick a word, and then build resolutions that use the word in each of the segments of my life (home, work, quilting, finances, spirtual, intellectual, etc). And being the dork that I am I actually measure them....it seems that's the only way I get anything done!!!!

Not so much of a resolution as a goal.. I want to gift or dispose of something at least once a week during the year. If that is a word I think it might be "purge".

I have goals, not resolutions (because my resolutions would always be the same, eat less, exercise more ...). My word this year is "intentional". I don't want to be impulsive or procrastinate. I want to be intentional with my time, with my money, with my life.

I'm with you....love picking a word. Mine for 2013 is Gratitude. I have lots to be grateful for.

I set some simple goals for the year. I posted them on my blog and hope to keep accountable there.

I pick words! Last year was JOY. Still thinking of this years word!

I set goals.

I also do not have resolutions, I choose to set goals with realistic timelines. Choosing a word for the year is also a very good idea! Now I am off to think of one that I want to describe my year ahead. Thanks for the inspiration!

My resolution this year is to comment at least once a week on the blogs I read.

My word is "faith." I'm not big on making resolutions per se, as much as I raise awareness about things I might like improve and consciously try to do better.

Ideas is where I go for resolutions, such as "think of things to put on a bucket list" or "consider ways to make it easier to be creative and not deal with mail all evening long"

A few years ago I was thinking of making my resolution for the coming year and instead had a revelation.... I looked back on the past year and could see the opportunities I'd missed and people/things that I'd lost touch with or didn't get done.... so now I take the new year and look back and reflect on what I need to reprioritize... this year is putting my faith first... then my health and family... I have to use this year to get healthy so there are many more years to follow...

Love your post! And your blog... Funny you should ask about the resolution thing. I just started a blog before Christmas at http://sewfreshquilts.blogspot.ca/
and my first post was about that very subject. Come over and visit me sometime!

Productive is definitely a great word for this year. I going to couple it with perseverance. I think the two will help me along o meeting one goals this year.

I save resolution making until my birthday which isn't until May. Makes more sense to me as I am more in tune with the seasons and how they affect my planning. Love your blog BTW, keep up the fun.

I also pick a word, this year it is Disengage. In a positive way as in leaving behind and stepping away from the behaviors that are not productive for me anymore. Letting people who can take care of themselves just do it. Respecting them enough to allow them to be responsible for themselves. More time and energy for quilting!
