so true story . . .
i'm outside, minding my own business, when my neighbor starts chatting me up.
like a good neighbor,
"how was yall's trip to florida?"
"when are yall getting the camper ready?"
"yadda yadda neighborly talk yadda."
then my neighbor was like, "hey, we have this ipod dock and we need a travel bag for it. but diane {his wife} wants it to have a little padding in it. would you know how to do something like that? i mean, i can pay you. or trade off some landscaping."
before the word landscaping fully exited his mouth, i blurted out "of course i can!!!"
note: my neighbor owns his own landscaping business. his yard looks amazing. all year long.
to put it into perspective, his lawn is beauty and my lawn is the beast.
;)
yep.
so now i'm making an ipod dock just so i can get my neighbor's professional touch somewhere in my yard.
i think i got the better end of the bargain, personally.
for those inquiring minds:
fabric = meet me at sunset for dear stella

I agree, you are getting the better end of the deal. You get to sew, which you enjoy and someone else will slave over your dandelions and crabgrass.
Nice! I've been outside cutting away the dead stuff from our freeze and I definitely could use some landscaping advice and work! Make sure you take a pic!
Oh, how i wish we were neighbors! What fun swapping talent!
Whoa, what a great deal!!! You will show us what he does to your yard, right??
Is there anything else he needs to be made??
you are getting a rockin awesome trade! seriously, i would trade sewing for landscaping any day. i hate yard work. :)
yeah...i'd have made that trade too!
Will this pattern be a tutorial? I had 13 iPads donated to school and I need to make covers/cases for them. We could be matchy matchy!
Hugs & stitches,
Jennifer
PS - Miss you! School is almost over and we can hang out!
Sweet deal!
We have those kind of neighbors too with that PERFECT yard and mine is horrible:( U made a great deal girl!!
BRILLIANT!!! ;D
Well done! I do trade deals all the time; makes life easier sometimes!
This made me laugh! I love a good barter!
sounds like a great deal to me...does he travel?????
What a wonderful tradeoff!!!
Well you each are using the talent that God gave you! So he thinks he is getting a great deal, you think you are getting a great deal! WIN WIN!!
Does he need anything else made? My lawn could surely use his help!!
Bartering is such fun! Everyone feels that they each got the better end of the deal! I hope you show pictures of the sewing and the landscaping too!

I am a web developer by day and traded a new roof for the garage for a web page. I totally scored and for years he kept telling me he still owed me. I could totally live in the age of barter.

hahaha...I'll bet his wife let him in on your dirty little secret... hahaha...too late for him tho...deal already made! Nice work Rachel!
I THINK YOU LUCKED OUT ON THIS DEAL!
HAPPY STITCHING!
I love the bartering way of doing things. It takes us back to another time, right?
Like how the case is for the wife but she got him to do the labor. hahahah. That is one smart woman. Wish I could find a deal like that. My yard or field or whatever is horrible. It needs like years of yard work to make it look like a yard.
That was a great barter. Congrats.
I am jealous, I also would agree to a trade like that in a hot second. Sounds awesome
You crack me up! Love this post!!
WINNING!
Aww, wish I had neighbours (other than sheep and a graveyard) I'd love to swap a phone case for landscaping
Can you push it a bit and offer to expand the trade? Tell him you can do matching covers for her IPod, IPhone, and IPad...and possibly a lap quilt in trade to expand his services? LOL
Take care of yourself!

What a great deal!! Love that bundle of fabrics too!
Oh, My Gosh. I had to rush to the FAt Quarter Shop site and order all of Dear Stella's Sunset fabrics. I love orange! Will be interested to see you bag.
Ha ha ha ha!!!!!! That is hilarious!!! I am sure he thinks he got the better end of the deal :)
LUCKY YOU! I wish my neighbor would make me a offer like that!
LUCKY!! That is a great deal! And LOVE that fabric.
Wow, I never get in on deals like that. A quilting friend of mine made a trade; she made a photographer a rag quilt (which was going to be a wedding gift) in exchange for graduation pictures for her daughter. Sweet.
when you feel like that, that's when you know it's a fair trade!
awesome!
Sounds like a pretty good trade off to me! It would've been a no brainer for me too.
You so got the better end of the deal! My neighbor is a landscaper too and I wish he'd make me an offer like that! He's always out in his yard - I keep saying to him "keep going to the left" LOL.
YOu lucky lucky woman. When it's winter I love that I have a southern facing lawn - rarely have to shovel (unless it's over a foot and stays below freezing for days) as the sun takes care of it very shortly. The summer sun however, bakes the grass and I have mostly dirt and weeds. Excellent trade i'd say.
like totally man! yall got the best of the deal...little bag is so easy for you to make....great post.
That is *awesome* Rachel!! I love to barter! :o) We do not have hens this year, and a friend traded eggs from her hens, for a loaf of fresh baked bread (we grind our wheat). :o)
Have a great week and enjoy your landscaping!! :o)
