the truth is...

10 May 2011

the truth is...

i can't read books on a regular basis. especially if it's a series.
i get way too sucked in.
like i don't do laundry or quilt & we eat SUPER easy meals.
it's bad. real bad.

i don't own an ironing board.
i always intend to buy one, but i just don't.

sometimes harry potter hangs out with my toddlers while i quilt.
they can probably quote the first two movies in their entirety.
harry potter is like family in the griffithdor house.

i live in comfy clothes.
i get dressed in "real clothes" long enough to leave the house, but as soon as i'm back home, bring on my comfy digs.
BUT if i had my way, i wish we all still dressed like it was the ol' days...
corsets, cross cut bias dresses & heels for the gals.
adorable wool caps with trousers & suspenders for the fellas.

i'm the go to person for people who can't remember movie actors names.
most of the time i can tell you the name of an actor within .2 seconds.
my hubby teases me that i know all the extra's, key grips AND their cousins.

i procrastinate. badly.
i even get really mad at myself about it, yet i still do it.
what's wrong with me?!?!

in the past day & a half i've eaten almost a whole damn box of fudge rounds.
which is really weird because i'm SO the oatmeal creme pie kind of girl.

i went and saw water for elephants last weekish & can't stop thinking about it.
is this because of robert pattinson?!?!
i wanna say no, but is that the whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help me god?!?!

i have a favorite cuss word. one that i just love, but i can't say it.
it's kinda like pringles. once you pop, you can't stop.
so enlight of that, i say kid friendly fake cuss words.
my kids think it's hilarious.
say it with me: "what the flagnog?!?!"

i'm SUPER ocd.
for instance when i go to the movie theatre i literally count the seats.
i have to make sure i sit in the exact middle of the row PLUS it has to be half way up.
and that's just ONE example of my ocdness.

instead of cleaning out my fridge like a good girl, i was a slacker.
of course there was that one bowl of god knows what on the bottom shelf all the way in the back.
i threw the whole doggone bowl in the trash because i didn't want to empty & wash it.
who does that?!?!

maybe i should say a few novenas or something.
:P

Gee, about 80% of that sounds like me, especially the OCD part. I also have a bit of ADD thrown in there.
And I've had chocolate cake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner since Sunday. Really.

Deborah said...

Who throws the bowl away with god-knows-what in it that got pushed to the back of the fridge, cause you don't want to deal with it?!!
*raises hand*
I'll admit to having done that a time or two.
I don't count seats, but there are other oddities about me that would take up too much time here.
I like you even more now. Thanks for sharing how normal you are. :o)

I do that! I would much rather just throw away whatever that is then open it and risk the smell. I'm OCD at work but not at home which is weird because I really wish my house was more clean and orderly but I can't be bothered to spend my limited time away from work doing that when I'd rather be sewing.

Melissa L said...

It is truely scary how much that sounds like me!! Except for the fact that I prefer the fudge Rounds over oatmeal pies.

Three Birds Inspired said...

Regarding throwing away a container from the back of the fridge...I've done that. I didn't notice it until it was way past nasty so I tossed it. I decided not to feel guilty. Yesterday all I ate was a cup of yogurt and an entire pound of Dragon Mix. I could not stop. I may actually have a Dragon Mix addiction. Right now if you went into my studio you would assume that I am a complete slob. I am not...really.

We don't count the seats, but my husband does line himself up with the projector up in the window.

I have been known to throw entire bowls away because I was afraid to open them. I consider doing that a public service. after all, if I actually opened it, I might have to call Haz-Mat.

We share a name and a lot of other things, evidently!

I swear, I have to buy tupperware twice a year, because most of it ends up in the trash eventually. So has a (admittedly very cheap) sauce pan or two.

And series… dangerous things, those. Especially when I’m procrastinating, then I read more, and procrastinate more and get even angrier with myself…

Melissa Corry said...

I have been known to throw out tupperware when I am to scared to open it. It is nice to know I am not the only one :)

harry potter lives here too. i just finished re-reading the whole series of 7 books. no, not much else got done these last couple weeks. ;)

Hmmmm... that all sounds incredibly familiar! :)

Now I want fudge rounds. Because I am SO a fudge round girl. I could eat a whole box in an hour. No joke. (Naptime, usually, because then I don't have to share.)

QuiltNut Creations said...

yum that looks good! and it all sounds way too familiar. except for Harry Potter, here it would be Star Wars lol.

I just finished off a box of fig newtons...ugh...
I am also a procrastinator..which is why I have been on the computer all day and dishes aren't done.
I have "town" clothes and "home" clothes. My "town" clothes are really out of style cause I hate to go to "town"...

Tammy said...

You are adorable...and yes, I have thrown out the entire bowl in the refrigerator...easier to buy another!

i love your truths - a good honest blog post like this gives me hope that there are more mommies like me out there. *ahem* guilty of throwing away a plastic container of - "what the hey was that" every now & again. um, that's why it pays recycle & reuse all those yogurt & cottage cheese & spreadable butter containers right?

Oh yes-thrown the whole bowl out many times! I'm always afraid if I open it I will pass out from the smell!

I love this post. I can't tell you how many times I've told my husband that I just don't feel "like a real person" because I hate to shop for clothes, I had rather have a new plant in my garden than a piece of jewelry, and one of my favorite snacks is a spoonful of Marshmallow Creme! I even hate having my hair done! (Now what's up with that!)I think almost all of us have our quirks and we hate to let anyone know about them. I don't know who came up with the "standard" of what a normal person looks like!

IHeartQuilting said...

I also throw out containers from the fridge, if it has been in there long enough that I don't remember what it was, and I'm afraid to open it, LOL. And I hear you on the books that are part of a series - but I read them anyway! They have to be read in order, of course.

I have one thing to say..middle of night, child tummy bug, sheets and quilt cover thrown away..who does that??!! I am with you on every one of your confessions, but don't tell anyone, I think I may have convinced one or two people in my entourage that I actually know what I'm doing!! You made me smile this evening, thank you ♥

MWalker said...

If I know it is going to not be a pleasant experience, the bowl gets thrown out in my house too!!! :)

I can totally relate to the procrastinating, comfy clothes, Harry Potter (my 7 year old knows most of them by heart and says the lines with an accent) AND the fudge rounds. Not the ocd tho, that's all you!

I have passed the "EWWWWW don't open it" tradition to my 19 yr old DD. She also didn't know people don't watch the movie 3x in a row. She has grown up perfectly normal and reminds me that it was ok to have my hair down as a mom and still do a good job. She also asked when she will be old enough to speak "car talk". I busted her and said "I know you already do" with a raised eyebrow and we had a wonderful laugh together. We have better relationships with our kids when they get to see "being human" is good for you. Just enjoy the line repeating of Harry Potter movies with your kids, they think your cool and it turns into an inside joke. They love it. I know all the songs to Sweeney Todd and we talk about subtle messages in The Chronicles of Narnia that only we know...LOL. Enjoy Life! Thanks for sharing yourself!

This was awesome! I am totally a jeans and t-shirt gal, but in my own mind i'm wearing one of those figure flattering June Cleaver dresses with pearls and pumps!
I used to be really good at actors and actresses names, but they are all so young now! I read the book Water for Elephants two years ago, and I still can't stop thinking about it, so it's not about Robert Patinson, at least not for me.
I have a few favorite cuss words, and am so glad that my kids are grown so I don't have to edit myself anymore, but I am totally stealing "flagnog" because, it is so much better than the original word!
Thanks for a great post!

You are too funny and just too normal! :)
Before I married my husband I always went out with makeup on and dressed presentably...right now I -
1) have no makeup on
2) am wearing my glasses
3) am wearing jeans, long sleeved t-shirt and Tennis Shoes
4)have my hair up in a ponytail

I'm not sure when I started slipping with the whole "no makeup glasses look". Probably when I started to stay home and didn't work.

Oh, we eat CEREAL for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack-time at my house. I just don't understand when my kids tell me they don't want cereal for dinner. Sheesh! :P

Carla said...

Too Funny! As I read this I can't help but to think, 'this sounds like me'! Especially the bad food in the fridge part. I've gotten rid of really good containers because of the mold. Yuck! If it makes you feel better, I just ate an extra large hershey bar and almost half a jar of peanut butter with it.

As nearly everyone else has admitted, there is NOTHING wrong with throwing away the bowl or plate. If I can't remember what's in it, I don't want to open it for fear of what it smells like-so I don't! And all I ate today was leftover Easter candy-Reeses eggs, SweeTart Chicks, Ducks and Bunnies, and those milk ball eggs. Yummm... although my teeth hurt from all the sugar.

kristyne said...

Oh girlfriend I like you! My favorite kid friendly bad word is "nutbar" but at Christmastime I'm more apt to say "Mistletoe Fruitcake" ;)

ewoman007 said...

I am so into the throwing out old containers from the fridge, and not one just once in a while! My solution to the guilt of throwing away containers is that I buy cheap-y ones at the dollar store! Then I can throw them away without feeling bad.
I love your site!

Love reading your posts! Is it not normal to make sure things are in the middle? And what if there are even numbers, then there is no middle? I think our whole family's middle name is OCD.

And tell your husband, "DUH! Of course I know all the keygrips and their cousins. I'm from the south. We know everybody's cousins."

craftytammie said...

you're so funny! i do a lot of that stuff. my family teases me because all the screws in the light switch plates have to be straight. as in, the line of the screw has to be vertical. yep. cuckoo!

Q said...

Erm... I do the exact same thing as you do with the cinema seats, they now have numbered seats that are allocated vaguely by the attendant you purchase from so I prefer to buy online and choose my exact seat. I have thrown away entire gross bowls cos I dont want to clean or even investigate what's in them, also entire saucepans with burnt remnants of dishes I have forgotten about on the stove. I get very upset about things I have no control over like the printing error on the sidejacket of Babylon 5 Series 4 Box which means the 5's don't line up on the spines of all the series not too mention the fact that it's not in the middle of the series, so at least the outer lying 5's would be symmetrical. My ex (ex) bf used to complain to anyone who would listen that I became totally obsessive when I was reading to the point of excluding life itself staying up all night (when I am usually an asleep by 9pm kind of girl) and ignoring him (heaven forbid!)

I don't like Robert though... I just don't get it once he was Cedrick (sp?) he stayed Cedrick, I am more attracted to Ron Weasley than Robert.

but other than that, we could pretty much start a club :)
Love your work!

Really enjoyed this post, still laughing.
My niece who lives in TX called me, which doesn't happen often. Her life is so busy. She is an avid reader and we share what we've read, kinda like a private little book club. Sunday she told me I needed to read Water For Elephants, especially since I worked for RB&BB circus in the early 80's.
I really rarely read books, I just can't sit still that long because there is so much to do. I do, how ever, spend up to 40 hours a week listening to books. The only big problem is I can't do noisy things like vaccume, so I dust-mop the dog hair up! I did put my name on the librarys e-list to get the audio book Water For Elephants like she suggested. I am patron 57! It may be fall before my number comes up! My favorite swear word, my son taught me when he was a young teen, works for most all situations, AAARRRRRGGGGHHHH! One of those comic book words.
Keep writing, i do love it!

Thanks for the chuckle this morning! Apparently many of us share at least a couple of your "confessions"! I have actually thrown away a container with food of unknown origin for the very same reason... it was just too ookey to clean! (love the griffendor nomenclature, too!)

thanks for the 'true confessions' today ~ it's always nice to know that there are other 'not so normal' people out there and are willing to admit it.
I've really gotten into reading again and in the last couple of weeks I've read: The Hours (really good), The Help (really good too), The Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet (loved this one) and The Windup Girl (dark but so good). I've also gotten back into exercise at the gym, so I ride the bike for and hour and a half and read. It's been wonderful and makes the exercise much more easy to do!
Thanks again

My husband is a former sailor... we've had to adjust our language usage somewhat as well. also "crab nuggets" from Megamind and "what the cuss" from Fantastic Mr. Fox.
Usually when the kids say something inappropriate, I can smack him and get away with it, but I've noticed lately that there's a few things that only I say that they've been copying!

Rhonda the Rambler said...

too funny...we must be kindred spirits of sorts.

I can relate on the following levels: book reading (don't even attempt it unless on a long trip), Barney babysat my kids for a long time, I even wear comfy clothes at work (shsh don't tell my boss), I procrastinate so bad that I panic (but I tell people it is because I work better under pressure which is a load of crap), I will eat whatever snack is in the house (even if I don't like it, OCD...OMG...my cans are lined up in my cupboard with the labels all facing the same direction and like foods together, and girl...if I could throw the fridge away I would so throwing a bowl away is no biggie in my house (I should buy stock in plastic bowls).

Here is where we differ: You can have Robert Pattinson, I know nothing about actor/actresses, and I haven't said a cuss word in almost 18 years (except for the slight slip up here and there) but it def is not part of my everyday language BUT I do love to see the look on people's faces when I make little comments like "Shut the front door" because they would never expect a cuss word to come out of my mouth and then suddenly they realize they didn't. Too much fun.

Great post...thanks for sharing...and sorry about the rambling just wanted you to know you are NOT alone!

I love reading others comments and your post (which is all to real currently). I bought the "Mortal Instruments" books last Friday (by Cassandra Clare). It's now Wednesday night and I am about to finish book 3 (you should read them! Especially if you liked Twilight). My little boy doesn't like to watch TV so I keep telling to play with his trucks (so mom can read). The same dang thing happened with Twilight. Dang is my word of choice. Not creative at all. I do however wash a dish even if what was in there is OLD. Nasty stuff really doesn't bother me (unless it's beef liver that has been setting out for 2 days- ugh...:-p) At anyrate my Mom is the TV guru and I have nothing on her. However my husband didn't grow-up watching TV so he thinks I must have sat in front of it for the 24yrs b/f I met him. hahaha. Thanks for the post!
