"The Band Never Dances" by J.D. Landis. I found it in a discount bin when I was in middle school and have read it no less than twenty times. It's not eloquently written or wonderful or really even a very good story, but something about the tone and the descriptions captivate me EVERY time. :o)
There are soooo many books how do you pick just one? The very first thought in my head was the Bible because it teaches and inspires and is lifegiving. I could spend days in a bookstore. love books.

My favorite of all time is a childrens book called Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. It is a lovely story about a woman who sets out to achieve certain goals in life and once she has done so, she decides that she wants to make the world more beautiful.
It has the most gorgeous illustrations and Miss Rumphius is an inspiration- she does all sorts of things that aren't "typical" of women, like rding a camel and exploring new places. She never marries or has children.
I have a signed copy by the author, and I read it at least twice a year :)
My favorite books are the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers. I love love love those books - so inspiring! My favorite children's book is The Quiltmaker's Gift. I love the illustrations and the story line.

That's a difficult question! But if I can choose two books I would have to say that the "Lord of the Rings" thrilogy is my favourite number one... (ooops that's three books:-)

I don't have a favourite one. One that has stuck in my head for a long time though is Ysabel by Guy Gavriel Kay. It is a mixture of historical fiction, mystery, romance, suspense and a coming of age story.
The Bible... because it's life changing and life giving! Other than that... Eclipse! The strings look awesome.
"Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov. The language is precise, playful, complicated, carefully chosen, clever, layered, and perfect.
My all time favorite is Barbara Kingston's Prodigal Summer. It's about the coyotes researcher living in the woods and entomologist stuck on the tobacco farm and two more story lines in one book. I love those stringy pieces. I decided to challenge myself not to by any fabric this year and use what I have, but giveaways don't count. :)
I love Jane Eyre! Ironically I hated it while I was reading it, and then I finished it and it was like "oh my gosh this is the best book ever!"...or something close to that.
Love the basket of fabric! Well, I love so many books it's hard to pick just one. But since I have to pick one, I'll say The Lost Quilter (Elm Creek Quilts, #14) by Jennifer Chiaverini. I've read and loved all of her books but this one was the best of the bunch. Thanks for the giveaway! :0)
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Jane is my hero. She goes through so many trials and is so steady. She is a rock. I love how she is not afraid of Rochester and eventually wins his love. Oh, and the crazy woman in attic is a nice twist. READ IT!

The Monster at the End of this Book. With Grover. Seriously. I have fond memories of reading as a child and love it just as much today as I did then. My mom gave me my book, tattered, in a baggie when I moved out of the house. I have since purchased a copy for each of my children.

My favorite book is "Coming into the Country" by John McPhee. I love his books about geography, and this one about Alaska is excellent.

Is Harry Potter allowed? a MASTERPIECE, it is. The whole series. It's beautiful and has lessons about life, love, family, trust... the works. I read it annually.

Wow Rachel, hard question. Hmm, it's so hard to narrow this down to one favorite. I would have to say that I always go back to Anne of Green Gables. I love those stories and it contains so many of my loves - adoption, red hair, islands, family.
oo, tough one! i really love "the pact" by jodi picoult as a general book i loved reading, but for all time favorite i'd have to go with the classic "pride and prejudice". gotta love the tortured romance... and i am so an elizabeth bennett! :)
My all-time favourite book is The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. I love most of his work, but I find this book haunting. I re-read it every few years just to remind myself of how good it is!
I think my second favourite is A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. Another favourite author.

I was going to say whatever I am currently reading, because I can easily fall in love with a good book. But my all time favorite is a children's book called 'I'll Love You Forever'. I practically have it memorized, I read it so many times to my children, and the words are just as appropriate whether someone is 6 or 60. :-) Great giveaway! My favorite book is "Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It was one of the first chapter books I ever read when I was little, and I never fell out of love with the story. i see some cute flowery patterns in that basket that would be perfect for a garden themed quilt! :D

Oooh, easy! My absolute all time, 100% top of the list is the Belgariad series by David Eddings. I bought it ages ago (wow, looking back, probably 15 years ago) and I love re-reading it.
It's traditional fantasy - knights, magic, castles and good triumphing over bad. But the characters and plot are so familiar and I love being able to pick it up and step into another world, knowing exactly where I am.
Even after all this time, I still occasionally come across something new/forgotten about and it seems fresh and new. Love it!

I enjoyed On the Far Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. Its a kids book based on where I grew up. I actually only read it recently.
I'm going for the old classics! Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is my favorite book, not because of the romance so much (is too) but more for the funny sarcasm that totally matches my humour. Mmhh do we get extra credit for our least favorite books? To bad for me, cause I'd have to think about that for a while!

My favorite book is "Circle of Friends" by Maeve Binchy. She's an excellent author who really makes you care about the characters, and I love reading books set in Ireland.
Favorite book is the Bible and for fiction...hmmm...I don't have a favorite but I just read "Same kind of different as me" and it was really good and an eye opener for me in many ways. A True story.

I have way too many favourite books, it's so hard to pick! My favourite authors are Jane Austen and Lucy Maud Montgomery.
By Jane Austen my favourite would Pride and Prejudice (of course!), but my favourite book of all time would have to be The Blue Castle by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
I adore The Blue Castle because I see a lot of myself in Valancy, it's set in Ontario (where I live), it's beautifully written, and it's all about being the person you want to be instead of living under the thumb of others. There's also a wee bit of romance, a smidgen of darkness, and a whole lot of imagination. In a word it is: beautiful!
Rachel, My favorite book is a kid's book called the giving tree by shel silverstein. Everytime I read it with my kids I get a little teary because it makes me think about two things: 1) how the reward we get for being a parent is to constantly give until we have no more; 2) that Someone did that for us.
That's easy for me. My all time favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. I love to read about the love story between Elizabeth and Mr Darcy. I've read it three times through already (plus watched both movie versions several times). I am big Jane Austen fan, but that one is my fav.

I am currently reading all of the Elm Creek Quilt books and they are great. not sure what my favourite book would be, I have a terrible memory so after I read them I can't say that I recall which on is better. With my new eReader, I hope I can get some more reading done!
I love the book "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. It takes place during World War Two and is actually a Young Adult book. It is written in a unique way, with death as the narrator. This book makes anyone that reads it want to be a better person.
Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns. Great southern story about Will Tweedy growing up and recognizing the flaws of grown ups. My son is named Will, I had a cat named Tweedy. Great book--I might have to start it again tonight!

I read all books several times, watched the series on TV, bought the complete DVD's collection, and still LOVE all characters. See Caroline smiling to Charles ? It's ME, no doubt !!! And I named my youngest daughter LAURA ! Actually I came to quilting through them, and my first quilt was a scrappy red/blue/white 2,5 inch squares ;>) I love how all that family cherishes simples joys through their everyday hard life and how they help each other. I love their values, their courage and their faith...
On another note, here is the second book :
"THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS" by Douglas Kennedy.
I remember when my sister phoned, 5 years ago, saying "quick! go and buy that book! you won't regret it!"... which I did. Ooooh, that book! I still can't figure how a man could write such a book, with such a perfect understanding of a woman's soul ! From the first sentence to the last one (and there are 600 pages) I was, and still am, totally fascinated. No "sugar love romance" here, rather the terrible story of two lovers, from the 1950's until now, in the USA. Kennedy not only perfectly depicts the woman's feelings, sorrows and struggles, but he also gives a very interesting and detailed picture of life in the US at that time.
I read it 3 or 4 times in French (my mother language), always finding something new to think about. Then I bought it in the original English version, and enjoyed it even more.
This book stays on my bed table, and I always take it with me, when travelling. THANK YOU, Mr Douglas Kennedy !

Dream Giver is my favorite book so far. It give you permission to dream. My Granddaughter would love to have those scraps. She is working on her very first baby quilt. I am proud of her.
You ask pretty tough questions young lady. How can I pick one of the thousands I've read, I love Jodi Picoult's books cause she always makes you look at things from a different perspective, but can I pick one...nope. I have to go with "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith. I love reading about the era my parents grew up in.
I love "The Other Boleyn Girl" by Philippa Gregory. It is a historical fiction, based in the 16th century, and I loved every minute of reading it. Such a different time period to be living in, I wonder if I would have survived back then?
Choosing just one favorite book is like choosing a favorite child!
If I MUST pick only one, it would probably be A Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. A timeless dystopian tale from a woman's point of view.

Favorite book I've read in the past few years: The Host by Stephanie Meyer. If you haven't read it, you NEED too! It's more sci fi than Twilight but I really enjoyed it. It moved me to tears! I also think it's more well written than Twilight (sorry!).

I've always loved jane eyre since I first read it in5th grade. Otherwise it would be twilight - my son wanted to get me the Edward doll for Christmas!
My fasvorite adult book is "Into the Wilderness," by Sara Donati. I've reasd it several times and Love the main Character Elizabeth Middleton is a strong woman, who is not afraid to follow her heart and knows she can do everything she puts her mind to.
My favorite Young adult book is "Someday," By jackie French Kholler. It's story about loss,letting go, an staring anew. Historical fiction it follows a young girl and her family's struggle about being up rooted form their home so the people of Boston Massachusetts can flood the valley to create the Quabbin Resevoir for drinking water. Love this book! Reading is a passion so there are many more but these two are my favorites!
I love "The Day No Pigs Died." I read it in junior high and I'll always remember it.
There are so many great books! My favorite would be 'Grandpa and Thomas' by Pamela Allen. She is an Australian children's book author. The reason I love it? I have read this book so many times to my kids. They LOVE it and for me it just brings back so many wonderful memories of winding down at the end of each day, cosying up with the kids in their beds, and reading this book over and over.
As for my favorite grown ups book... love the Twilight series too... but also love reading autobiographies. Love reading about a person's journey!

My all time favorite book is A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. It is the one book I had to read in high school that I liked, and I LOVE it! It started me on an entire Dickens kick, in fact. I still cry every time I read the last two pages, and I've lost count of how many times I have read it! Besides TOTC, I read the Twilight series over and over, and another series called Wheel of Time. 12 books; I have read the entire series at least 5 times. My husband thinks I'm insane.
Mine is the children's book "Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch. I've been reading that to my kids since they were little bitty and I still can't get thru it without choking up and bawling. It's just the epitome of life how we care for our children and when we get old, they return the favor and care for us. Made me tear up just typing that! ha! Jenn

Hmmm, my favorite is Lady of Hay written by Barbera Erskine(1986). That book is as old as 24 year and each year I have to read it. A romantic thriller where the persons travel back and forward in time. I just love it!
But of course I love those fabric strips and will make a lovely dolquilt out of it.

Well, I do love Gone With the Wind AND my daughter is named Tara. BUT...I'll choose to say that right now my favorite is the whole SERIES of books by Janet Evanovich featuring her character called Stephanie Plum. I never laughed out loud while reading a book UNTIL I began to read these. I dare anyone to read them and NOT laugh!!! As for the strings, I'd use them to make blocks for the Heart Strings project (who collects string blocks or string quilt tops to give them to people who are in some way hurting and in need of the comfort of a quilt). Hardest question ever! I have so many favorites. Gone With The Wind is also one of my favorites (I'm a Georgia girl, too!)and I love all of Jane Austen's books. But two that I haven't seen mentioned yet are Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.
I also love The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. She's a great writer!

I love Kit's Law by Donna Morrissey. I love the setting of Newfoundland, and the characters really have to struggle against the land, eachother, and themselves to find the truth. The truth is horrible, but sets them free to be who they are. I was crying, really hicking and sobbing through the last few chapters as things came together. We were camping, and my husband kept looking at me and shaking his head, and giving me more tissues. I finally ended up with a whole tea-towel soaked in "great book" tears. When I was done, he said: "I don't know why you do this to yourself. You can close those so easily." He's just not that into books!

My favorite of the moment is "The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey" -- why? Because it shows the miraculous transformation that happens when people reach out to others the way God reached out to us through Jesus.
p.s. If you pick up the book at Barnes & Noble, it includes a narration of the story on CD by James Earl Jones -- and the artwork is fantastic! The movie isn't bad, either. Gotta love Tom Berrenger... *grin*
I love "Something Wicked This Way Comes" by Ray Bradbury. I had to read it in high school and it was one of the few I thoroughly enjoyed! I just love mystery and fantasy in that book. Something that surprised me was that it's classified under Sci-Fi, not a category that usually grabs my attention.
Ray Bradbury has such a way with words to make you feel like you're right there living the novel.
My all time favorite is a book I read back in the 70's. "Kids say the Darndest Things" by Dick Van Dyke. It was just hilarious and now as a parent I can better appreciate it!

can't say just one as my favorites are "Anne of Green Gables" and "Anne of Avonlea" by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Actually, I love the whole series all the way through to "Rilla of Ingleside". The books struck a chord with me while growing up because I could identify with Anne (spelled with an "e" - very important, you know?). I loved the way that Anne changed life around PEI even though she felt awkward and out of place. *sigh* I think it's time to read those books again soon!

My kids are in high school so I just reread The Catcher in the Rye. Wow, I had forgotten how powerful it was. So very telling and insightful into the mind of a young man trying to "figure it all out". Anyway, thanks for the chance at the lovely basket of fabric goodies. Your work is lovely. :)
A hard one! Growing up my favorites were Anne of Green Gable and Pippi Longstocking.
I love "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit." It's a great children's book about a Jewish girl and her family as they flee the Nazi's, first to France and then to England. I also love "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Gold.
This question is tough....especially because I graduated with a degree in English---so that means I just LOVE to read!! I'm not sure if I can name just one book that's my all time favorite, so I'm gonna go with the Something Borrowed/Something Blue books by Meg Giffin because I just read those last and they are fresh on my mind!
I LOVE Gone with the Wind, it has been read over and over, I probably need a new copy now. I am always reading either it or something Jane Austen or Little Women. I just rotate them.
The Book of Mormon....a testement of Christ....compliments the Bible...not adding to it or changing it.

There are a few that I absolutely LOVE. Obviously, the scriptures would be first. Second, hands down, would be my Betty Crocker cook book. It was my first cookbook and is well loved!
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, love the book and both of the movies. I read it as a child and it has always been my favorite.
One of my recent favs is The Queen's Fool by Phillipa Gregory ~ She's got quite a few novels about the time and reign of King Henry, but the stories all revolve around the women of the time. They just pull my right in!

Great idea, Rachel. So many ideas here for books I want to read this year! My favourite (apart from the Bible, that is) would be "The Forgotten Garden" by Australian author Kate Morton. It has romance, mystery, drama, history all in one. Totally engrossing, and spanning more than 90 years with the story swapping back and forwards in time. Couldn't put it down!

I love Nora Roberts books...especially her Death in...series...so I really can't pick just one. I recently read Jane Austen and enjoyed that, too.

My favorite book, the one I can read every day of my life would be (hanging head in shame) a romance novel. I'm so high brow... Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn. (Shh! Don't tell my husband, but our oldest son is named after the hero)
I'd say apart from the Bible, which is always first, would be Christy by Catherine Marshall. What a wonderful old-time story of a first-time teacher in a one-room schoolhouse.
Oh shoot... I don't think I have one favorite book of all time! Wait... can I name a series? The Harry Potter series are my favorite. JK Rowling is a genius of character development, and flawless plot interweaving.

I would have to say Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson and of course The Diary of Anne Frank. I loved both these books when I was in grade school. I remember my 5th grade teacher reading me Bridge to Terabithia...I would get so into the book, I felt like I was there. It is such an enchanting book. Times that like are what inspired me to be a teacher! The first book I ever read aloud to my class was...you guessed it... Bridge to Terabithia.

Hard to pick a favorite - there are so many different types of books! I love the poetry of Mary Oliver and all the books by Elizabeth Berg. My grandson and I love the "Mr. Putter" books.
Someone Knows My Name - by Lawrence Hill. This was really hard, I have a few children's books that are favourites, but by far this book has been my all time favourite 'grown up' book.

Rachel: When I first read your giveaway question, the first book that popped into my head was GWTW. Then I read your answer, and thought that I probably needed to pick another one or you would just think I was brown-nosing; however, the truth is GWTW is my all-time favorite book! And as wonderful as the movie is, it just doesn't hold a candle to Margaret Michell's book! So, I'm sticking with my my first answer! And as for the leftover strips, I do have a baby quilt I need to make quickly for a friend's first granddaughter . . . jus' sayin'!

I love the Mitford Series by Jan Karon!! I live in a small town and this series tells the story of Father Tim and all of the wonderful characters that live in the fictional town of Mitford in the NC mountains. There is even a cookbook and two wonderful books of quotes to go along with them.
I'm so predictable, of course it's Twilight for me. Best love story ever, I just love the whole star crossed lovers/Romeo & Juliet theme. I don't know if I'll ever find another book that I love more! This is the only book I've actually read more than once too.
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen (Paulson), not sure on the spelling. I read this book in 6th grade maybe and still think about how great it is! It would probably be a quick read now!

My favorite book is Go for No it is a little story about an average man who gets to see what his life could be like if he wasn’t afraid of hearing the word no. Every time I see this book on my very full bookshelf it reminds me to go after my dreams because the worst that can happen is that someone will say no and then I am no worse off than I was before.

First off, I just stumbled upon your blog and I LOVE it! I'm an Ohio girl too. For my favorite book I'd have to say it is "The Quilter's Homecoming". I love all the Elm Creek Quilts series but so far that one is my favorite. I love the the strings you are offering - here's to crossing my fingers. Atleast the shipping might be alittle cheaper since we're in the same state! LOL!

Everybody Poops! Say what? Well, kids can be a challenge and when my twins were being potty trained, #2 was our #1 problem. I enlisted the help of some scholarly friends in the mommy business and found a classic! Braeleigh & Brandt (who thinks his name is Beans) are successful all thanks to this book. Their success makes this book an all time favorite. No more pull-ups! Wahoo!

So I Love LOVE love the A Very Hungry Catapillar. I always have and always will. It just teaches about a cycle in life. And I have loved this book A Dog Called Kitty- I don't know the author and haven't read it since elementry. But would love to find it to read to my children.

Christy by Catherine Marshall or the Twilight series...they are probably the only books that I have really read more than once, but then again...there is the current Jane Evanovich, is she at fourteen yet? As for children's books, most definitely, "Where the Wild Things Are" was a book that was well loved in our house when my boys were little!

oooh what a giveaway! I don't usually recommend books because I am always so worried that the person won't like it... but I have recommended this book a lot. Everyone always loves it. It's impossible not to! The author develops the characters so well you feel like you know them. You laugh when they laugh. You cry when they cry.

Easy Peasy? I wish! I love GWTW too though I was extremely shocked when I read it for the first time. GWTW is one of my favorite movies and then I read the book and well.....
I don't think I can pick just one. I literally have a "mobile library" in the trunk of my car. I wish I could take a pic and show it to y'all. I'm not talking about oh 10 or 15 books but a number like the answer to 10 times 10. My family lives in a dinky house and there's just no room for them. So....they're in my trunk, in a big ole box for me to easily access during my lunch hour at work.

I can't really answer that. The best book I read in the last year was "Hanna's Daughters" by Marianne Friedrickson. Interesting book.
My fav children's book is much easier to pick. "Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy" by Lynley Dodd.
My favourite book is "Emma" by Jane Austen. When my daughter was born the midwife asked us if we´d already chosen a name and i said: our daughters name will be Emma. She said that that is the name of her favourite book and so i bought the book immediately. It always reminds me of my daughters birth!

Gosh, it's been a long time that I have gotten to read a book out of luxury. You know after reading textbooks all night, the last thing you want to do is read. Well, to answer the question I would have to pick Memoirs of a Geisha. That's how long I haven't read a non-school book.

I have many favorites - the shelves are filled with them but my absolute favourite read at this moment in time is 'The Shack' by Wm Paul Young - I urge you to read this book it will seriously rock your world in a way you could never imagine.
I really like the Twilight Saga but my favorite book is Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Great story and great characters. This book is really long but the story is so great that you can't stop reading.

Apart from scripture, Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Beautiful, hopeful and tragic all at the same time.
My favorite book ever is "Seamstress" by Peebles. It was her first book and it is absolutely fantastic. You must read it. It is a historical fiction based int he 1930's Brazil. A tale of two sister trying to make there way out of poverty and into fortune. Total opposite sides of the spectrum in awesome detail. I keep waiting for her to write another book.

I don't think I could pick just one favorite book...I am a serial reader. When I find something I REALLY like I will reread it every so often, just to experience it again. That said--the books I've read the most often are the Harry Potter series and the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. But I am always on the lookout for other favorite collections!

I have 2 favorites. "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch and "The Next Place" by Warren Hanson. Both are inspirational and wonder to read over and over.

Choosing a favourite book as hard!! There are so many that I love. If I was restricted to just 1, my desert island book so to speak, then it would have to be...
...White Fang by Jack London. I remember reading this as a child and loving it, being an animal lover anyway. It also prompted me to start writing my own book, which I never finished and have lost since then lol but it stuck with. I still have the very same copy of that book some 20+ years later. Must dig it out and read it again.

I too love "Gone With The Wind". It is one of the most romantic books I've ever read, and I love the history that goes along with it.
It is so cool that your daughter is named Melanie. Her character in the book is so loving and courageous, but it is Scarlett's grit and determination that I truly admire. She never gave up.

Nowadays, I jump between so many different authors and styles of writing. Lately, I'm hooked on audio books of Clive Cussler. Excellent to stitch to.
I'm working on a queen-sized strip quilt.. those strips would be a fabulous addition.
The Bible is my favorite book...it has love stories, war stories, miracle stories, healing stories, family stories, and more...What better book then one with stories for everyone...and they never grow old!!

hm. favorite books? There is far too many, but definetly, standing out in my head is the Gregory McQuire books, Wicked, Son of a Witch,A Lion among Men, Confessions of an ugly step sister, Lost, Mirror Mirror...yah. you get the idea. I read mostly non fiction, but these, well, they're twisted takes on old fairy tales really gets me and I totally get lost in them, which is helpful for ignoring the world and it's stress!
I do love each and every book of the DARKOVER cycle by Marion Zimmer-Bradley (may God rest her soul). In my adolescence they took me far far away to another world, where I could forget about all the trouble..... being accepted although being different or even more: therefore being the powerful (in more than one way). And it showed me MY world by overdrawing the situations and describing the opposite as THEIR NORMAL LIVES. Too obscure? Maybe because of it´s complexity (please try it yourself).... In more or less quinquennial intervals I do read them over and over again and still find more details.
The Great Gatsby is my favorite book. I read it my Sophomore year in High School and could not put it down. I would read it out loud to my mom in the evenings. I then read it again that summer and had my mom rent the movie with Robert Redford and we watch it together.
The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. This is such a well written book! I liked it so much last time I read it. The sequels are not nearly as good but this one is outstanding.
My favorite book definitely is the God of Small Things, by Arundhati Roy. A modern Romeo & Juliet style story set in India: I'm really not into this style of stories in general, but this is the ONE book that made me cry. And I mean really cry, because of the story,as well as because of the beautiful language used.
My piece of advice: run & buy it.

My favorite book is the Bible (KJV). Each time I read it, there is something new that I learn about living and giving.
Oooh - that basket of strings literally made me shiver! I'm such a scrap lover!!! I remember being in Jr. High and reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, and not entirely understanding it, but being swept away by the force of the emotion and the depth of the characters. I kept on reading it as I got older, and every time I understood it better and picked up on more of the nuances, and so it seemes better each time I read it.
I know it's pretty new, but my current favorite book is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. And he has a beautiful kids book, Blueberry Girl, that I love.
It's so hard to pick just one favorite; I've been a voracious reader since early childhood. If I had to pick the book I most often think back upon and talk about and recommend, it would have to be The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Many people read only the surface story, which itself is lovely and funny and entertaining. But Goldman's underlying frame story that claims his father read him the book as a child, but cut out all the boring parts, etc, is just wonderful. Of course there is no original book, no reading by his father. It just adds to the level of creativity. In fact I worked at a used bookstore years ago and a woman came in looking for the "original" version of the Princess Bride, and I think she simply didn't believe me that there was no such thing. And I was elated, in a way, that a writer could so convincingly lie!

It's too hard to pick just one! I love Russian literature so my favorite book might be "The Brothers Karamozov" bu that'd be followed very closely by "East of Eden" and "Les Miserables." I've been on a classics kick for the last year.

OOh, I love GWTW too, I've read it like a dozen times. But my all time favorite book is "The Solace of Leaving Early" by Haven Kimmel. The story is simple but heartbreaking, the narrator's voice is intelligent and sympathetic, and the language is absolutely beautiful. Love it so much that I read it aloud to my husband over the course of a few weeks while I was on bedrest with my daughters a couple years ago. Oh, and those same daughters would love a doll quilt made with those scraps. :)
OOOOH I'd lurve those scraps!!! My all time favorite book is I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb. Followed by A Prayer for Owen Meaney by John Irving. I also like The Help by Kathryn Stockett which currently happens to be a NY Times Bestseller. All three just make FEEL. They are all filled with some form of turmoil and emotion. They all give a sense of compassion.
I promised myself not to enter more give aways... but I just can't resist fabrics... I would answer the Bible too as lots of people do, but honestly I love reading other books as well and though I don't have one favourite book I read for like 100 times, my favourite childrens book used to be Joop ter Heul, a Dutch book with lots of humour, which story is somewhere in the 50th I think, with lots of funny things happening to young adults. My favourite author at the moment is Katie Fforde. I prefer to read her stories in English,even though it is not my first language. Since I read it slower, I can enjoy the books for more hours before they are finished.
I have a ton of favorite authors but not nearly so many favorite books. Hmmm.. makes me wonder why that is. I must say though that I really enjoyed "The Count of Monte Cristo" when I read it in highschool--there is just something so satisfying about the bad guys getting what they deserved after so much careful planning. Very satisfying indeed.

Besides the Bible, Judy Blume's "Are you there God? It's me Margaret" because it brings a lot of (although awkward) pre-teen memories when boys were just friends, staying up late talking in the dark with my sister, and being able to play outside for endless summer nights unsupervised. Ah the good old days. It has the memories flooding in.

Hmm favorite book...too many!! I go in phases of what books I read....well listen too. I am too busy to sit and read so right now I listen. So the last book that I "READ" was called..."Look me in the eye" by john elder robison. It is a very good book of this man's life with aspergers syndrome. My husband and oldest son have aspergers and it was very insightful. Now I need another book like this for someone who has high functioning autism like my second son! :D

Chris and I didn't have an arranged married but were married within 6 weeks so I understand a lot of what the characters went through. It's a story about growing to love your spouse.

and why? ha! its fiction but- in order to write such a book you need to be genios! the deep philosfy that the book talks about, the great story that you cant put aside. its a whole world that only us- the dune freaks know about. and its not just one book- there are many more after that need to be red

My favorite book is 'l'Empire des Anges', by Bernard Werber, a French author. I don't knwo if it is translated in English, but it is a very good book about the afterlife and angels looking after humans. It is this book that made my husband realize that he liked to read! Now he tries to read a little bit everyday!

My all time favorite book is "To Kill a Mockingbird". Scout and Atticus are remarkable characters. It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is to relate to the themes of the book regardless of ones own background. I am a teacher, and it does not matter where or who I have taught; inner cities, rural communities, poor, rich...kids always find something in it that resonates with their experiences. Every new read brings out something different for me. Huh, it may even be time for another read!

Uhm... tough questions 'cause I just love so many books... My newest favourite though is The unbearable lightness of being by Milan Kundera. It's just so delightfully written (like all of his books, really). I highly recommend it!
I too love the Bible, but I'll give you another answer as well. I love the whole Chronicles of Narnia series! I only regret that I didn't read them until I was an adult.

You know what? I've always been a huge book lover, was a very early reader, and a precocious reader! I think I was 11 when I read Gone With the Wind.
Probably my favourite book from the past year has been "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, or maybe "The Book of Negroes" by Lawrence Hill.
Usually it's whatever I'm reading at the time. My boys got me the whole Harry Potter series in hardback (a bargain found at the thrift store!). I'm on the 3rd one now and love them! Your basket of scraps is adorable. I'd love to get started on a cute string quilt with it! Thanks for the opp!
